About The Position

The ASU Alumni Association is seeking a Director, Marketing and Communications to lead our strategic marketing team. Under administrative direction, this position is responsible for developing and implementing cost effective strategic marketing plans, strategic and tactical initiatives and solutions, branding identities for each program and event, and coordinating campaigns which cultivate excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including two (2) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Knowledge of effective marketing and branding activities, public relations, methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of national media sources and editorial practices including print, television, radio and electronic or online.
  • Knowledge of coordinating and supervising the work activities of others.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and organization.
  • Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in project and budget management.
  • Skill in developing, establishing and maintaining effective relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to comprehend and accurately communicate complex subject matter to the organization, various constituencies and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, administers, and oversees marketing plans, including consistent branding, advertising, public relations, direct marketing, promotion development, and internet marketing.
  • Supports the Alumni programs team with innovative concepts and marketing promotions.
  • Monitors competitive providers and marketing activities.
  • Conducts and oversees market research activities, adjusting marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions.
  • Establishes relationships with key constituents/partners.
  • Plans and oversees the development of promotional materials and activities including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail.
  • Plans and administers the Association’s marketing operating budget with the goal of making strategic marketing investments.
  • Supports business development activities including: assisting in the strategic planning of presentations and materials.
  • Offer guidance for prospective meetings, presentations, etc.
  • Develops external and internal communications and public relations efforts.
  • Designs and plans marketing training for the team, chapter leaders and other presentations as needed.
  • Works with key administrators to ensure marketing consistency.
  • Oversees the Alumni website from a marketing content stand point (versus IT), including oversight of website design and maintenance, enhanced reporting and tracking capabilities, and web-based initiatives that deliver value.
  • Supervises staff and works collaboratively with others.
  • Plans and implements ongoing communications for the alumni and engagement opportunities in conformity with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of a master calendar/schedule of events for use in the Association’s communications plan.
  • Determines target markets to expand audience base; decides how target market will be reached.
  • Creates, edits, and/or oversees creation of news items and articles for various news media, feature articles for various publications, and promotional or public relations material.
  • Develops communications strategy, tactics, and key messages, and tactics and makes recommendations to best serve the Alumni Association’s needs.
  • Ensures timely posting of news and events, and continuous improvement of the Association’s electronic strategies, including social media.
  • In coordination with other directors, develops and distributes local, regional, and national media releases and pitches story ideas.
  • Monitors use of brand and graphic standards works within defined budget parameters.
  • Presents information about the Association to visitors using a variety of presentation formats, including oral presentations/tours.
  • Collaborates with other communication professionals across the university to advance alumni engagement.
