About The Position

The Director of Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for managing the development, design, and manufacturing of assembly processes, tools, and machines. This role involves supervising the purchasing of new and used equipment, designing in-house equipment, and acting as a product design consultant. The position also requires providing technical expertise for paint/steel problems and R&D, overseeing floor plans and facility upgrades, and managing the start-up, debugging, and quality control of new product manufacturing lines. Additionally, the role oversees the design, installation, and optimization of electronic control systems and instruments for industrial processes. The Director will provide strategic leadership for the manufacturing engineering function, assist the Vice President of Operations with long-term corporate strategies, and formalize departmental plans. This includes preparing and supervising capital and expense budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in an engineering related field from four-year college or university
  • 10 years minimum experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
  • 10+ years experience in metal forming.
  • Must have experience in the design of dies and tools for forming metal.
  • Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and concerns.
  • Experience in developing training for engineers, maintenance, and production personnel.
  • Ability to develop preventative maintenance programs.
  • Experience in purchasing capital equipment and running capital projects.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft suite applications, CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and ERP Systems (JD Edwards preferred).
  • Ten years managerial experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the development, design, and manufacturing of assembly processes, tools and machines that will effectively and efficiently manufacture the company’s products.
  • Supervise purchasing new and used equipment, as well as design and construction methods for in-house equipment.
  • Act as product design consultant by working with Product Engineering to provide Manufacturing Engineering viewpoints.
  • Provide technical expertise and organization to defective paint/steel problems as well as R&D on new systems.
  • Responsible for floor plans, layouts and concepts of new buildings and upgrading of existing buildings and product manufacturing facilities.
  • Responsible for start-ups of new product manufacturing lines, debug and streamline productivity, ensure adequate raw materials and finished product quality.
  • Responsible for quality control decision making, including spot checks plant wide to determine improvement needs.
  • Responsible for the design, installation, optimization, and enhancement of electronic control systems and instruments to automate and monitor industrial processes.
  • Responsible for providing strategic leadership regarding all issues relating to the manufacturing engineering function of the Company.
  • Assist the Vice President of Operations with developing long-term corporate strategies based on changing competitive, financial and market conditions.
  • Formalize and document a departmental plan that achieves strategic and tactical goals set for the Company, including managerial development and continuous improvement of staff.
  • Prepare capital and expense budgets, including expenditures guidance, and supervise the ongoing record of all expenditures.
  • Manages the manufacturing engineering and Controls function and carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include setting priorities, planning and assigning work, hiring, coaching, developing, and appraising performance, addressing complaints, resolving problems, and building a high-performing manufacturing engineering team aligned with business objectives.
