About The Position

Stifel Fund Banking is the business banking platform within Stifel Bank focused on capital call (subscription) credit facilities, deposit accounts, and other commercial banking services for private investment funds across venture capital, private equity, private credit, and real estate. The group has more than 10 people and manages a portfolio of over $8 billion in credit commitments across more than 300 investment firm client relationships. It works closely with other investor-facing business units, including Stifel Venture Banking. The Director/Managing Director will lead business development for New York City and surrounding northeastern geographies, building Fund Banking/Fund Finance business with VC/PE firms and serving as their senior relationship manager. The role involves originating and structuring credit facilities, developing client and industry relationships, collaborating across Stifel to generate opportunities, and supporting the management and development of team members. The position also partners with portfolio managers, analysts, and risk management to maintain credit quality.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
At least 7 years of relevant experience.
Direct experience in a business development role engaging with VC/PE funds.
Knowledge of structuring and managing Fund Finance credit facilities.
Knowledge of treasury management and depository needs of VC/PE firms and their fund administrators.
Exposure to and pre-existing relationships within the VC/PE ecosystem.
Strong underwriting and deal structuring skills.
Effective communication skills for interacting with prospective clients, including senior partners at VC/PE firms.
Experience managing effective teams and strong team leadership skills.
Outgoing, confident personality and ability to attend numerous in-person industry events within the VC/PE ecosystem.
Strong presence in New York City.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

Originate, develop, and maintain Fund Banking/Fund Finance business, primarily out of New York City.
Develop and maintain a network of venture capital and private equity firms through substantial business development and relationship-building activity.
Negotiate and structure Fund Banking/Fund Finance credit facilities, primarily bilateral capital call (subscription) facilities, as well as credit facilities for management companies and general partners.
Partner and cross-sell with Stifel Venture Banking, Investment Banking, Commercial Lending, Fixed Income, and Private Client departments to identify and generate opportunities.
Assist in managing and coaching new Fund Banking team members.
Partner with portfolio managers, analysts, and risk management to proactively manage the portfolio and maintain desired credit quality.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of the VC/PE and Fund Finance ecosystems and Stifel’s products.
Recruit, coach, and develop talent and contribute to building an effective team.
