About The Position

The Innovative CPA Group is seeking a Director / Manager of Tax Controversy to join its CPA firm. The role manages federal, state, and local tax controversy matters for individuals and businesses, including audits, notices, appeals, collections, and dispute resolution. The position represents clients before taxing authorities, develops resolution strategies, communicates with clients and authorities, supervises staff, and supports practice development and client relationships. The role may be based in Shelton, Bethel, or Hamden, Connecticut.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Five or more years of relevant experience for Manager level; eight or more years for Director level.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax procedures.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• CPA, JD, or EA preferred.
• Public accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage tax controversy engagements, including audits, notices, appeals, and collections matters.
• Represent clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities.
• Research tax issues and develop resolution strategies.
• Communicate with clients and taxing authorities regarding case status and outcomes.
• Review and supervise staff work, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Assist with practice development and maintain client relationships.
• Stay current on tax law and regulatory changes.
