About The Position

The Innovative CPA Group is seeking a Director / Manager of Tax Controversy to join its employee-centric CPA firm. The firm is comprised of experienced tax and accounting professionals and emphasizes empowerment, accountability, broad expertise, and technology-enabled workflows. The position manages federal, state, and local tax controversy matters for individuals and businesses, including audits, notices, appeals, and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate has strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and experience representing clients before taxing authorities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax procedures.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• 5+ years of relevant experience for Manager level; 8+ years for Director level.

Nice To Haves

• CPA, JD, or EA preferred.
• Public accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage tax controversy engagements, including audits, notices, appeals, and collections matters.
• Represent clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities.
• Research tax issues and develop resolution strategies.
• Communicate with clients and taxing authorities regarding case status and outcomes.
• Review and supervise staff work, providing guidance and mentorship.
• Assist with practice development and maintaining client relationships.
• Stay current on tax law and regulatory changes.
