About The Position

The Director Line Maintenance sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial performance of line maintenance for Horizon Air and ensures safe maintenance operations and compliance with all company, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and governmental safety rules and regulations. As a people leader, the Director Line Maintenance establishes strategic goals and direction for the team to ensure high standards of performance are maintained in the areas of safety, compliance, quality and cost.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years in-depth experience overseeing aircraft line maintenance.
  • 4 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Must hold a valid Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.
  • Meet the requirements listed in CFR 119.65 (d) to exercise control over operations.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and safety regulations.
  • Experience working with Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently (up to 40%).
  • Exceptional integrity, with impeccable ethics in safety and compliance.
  • Strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • 10 years of line maintenance experience.
  • 4 years of experience successfully leading a team of 10 or more employees at a manager level or above.
  • Knowledge of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) bargaining agreement, along with labor relations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establish strategic goals and direct the day-to-day operation to ensure safe operations and compliance with all company, FAA and governmental safety rules and regulations, including the airworthiness of all company aircraft released from maintenance.
  • Set the long-term strategy, communicate and administer corporate policies and goals to ensure a continuing understanding of the company’s commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Ensure timely troubleshooting of discrepancies and initiation of corrective actions to maintain the airworthiness and reliability of aircraft throughout the operating day.
  • Use the Safety Management System (SMS) policies and procedures to identify hazards in the operation, promote safety within the division, ensure effective risk controls are implemented and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Direct all scheduled inspections and ensure maintenance of routine/non-routine requirements are satisfied in accordance with policies and procedures, assuring positive corrective action is taken promptly.
  • Ensure all personnel assigned to perform maintenance on Horizon aircraft, engines and components, including employees of contracted agencies, are properly trained in compliance with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 121.375, GPM policies and procedures, and departmental guidelines.
  • Ensure maintenance stations are properly staffed and provided with facilities, tooling and ground support equipment to ensure safe and efficient maintenance and planning activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with contracted repair agencies, continuously evaluate compliance with approved maintenance policies and procedures and ensure the quality of work.
  • Oversee Maintenance Training programs to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 121.375, GPM policies and procedures, and departmental guidelines.
  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines.
  • Guide and administer the collective bargaining unit (CBU) with line maintenance stations.
