About The Position

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, this individual will play a strategic role in advising senior leadership and the various functions across the organization. The mandate will be to advise the organization on business decisions, protect its interests, and build a modern, agile, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented legal function. You will have the opportunity to become a true strategic partner to the business. Requirements

  • A law degree and membership in good standing with the Barreau du Québec.
  • Approximately ten years of relevant legal experience gained both in-house and within a recognized law firm.
  • Strong knowledge across several areas relevant to Simons’ activities, including retail, commercial real estate, technology, e-commerce, privacy and data protection, consumer law, marketing, and employment law.
  • A demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders and influence stakeholders across a variety of functions and business realities.
  • Fluency in both French and English, with the ability to communicate effectively and negotiate and draft agreements in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on the organization’s key legal, regulatory, and reputational matters.
  • Supporting our teams in their decisions and projects by translating legal considerations into clear, pragmatic recommendations aligned with business realities.
  • Progressively defining the priorities, processes, and service delivery model of the legal function, while ensuring the effective management of external legal partners.
  • Fostering an accessible and collaborative legal culture that empowers teams to make informed decisions while supporting the organization’s ambitions.
  • Overseeing the drafting, negotiation, and review of commercial agreements and supporting expansion projects, strategic partnerships, and digital initiatives.
  • Advising the organization on legal matters related to areas such as commercial real estate, technology, e-commerce, labour law, and financial activities.
  • Supporting the organization in matters related to compliance, privacy and data protection, consumer law, and regulatory requirements applicable to products and the supply chain.
  • Advising leadership and Human Resources on employment law and labour relations matters.
  • Overseeing litigation and contributing to the identification, prevention, and management of the organization’s key legal risks.
