Director, Land Survey

About The Position

The Director of Land Survey is responsible for providing strategic, operational, and technical leadership for all land surveying activities across the organization. This role oversees surveying operations supporting capital projects, large customer projects, right-of-way acquisition, easements, permitting, and asset documentation. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, surveying standards, safety policies, and company objectives while leading a high-performing team of survey professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in the State of Texas required.
  • 10+ years of progressive land surveying experience, including leadership of large, complex programs.
  • Demonstrated experience managing managers and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong knowledge of right-of-way, easements, permitting, and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and external consultants.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enterprise-wide leadership for land surveying functions, including boundary, topographic, construction, and right-of-way surveys.
  • Develop and execute surveying strategies that support capital construction, distribution, transmission, and large customer projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Texas Board of Professional Land Surveying (TBPLS) standards.
  • Oversee survey quality control, data integrity, and the use of surveying technologies (GPS, LiDAR, GIS, drones, CAD).
  • Lead, mentor, and develop managers, licensed surveyors, technicians, and support staff.
  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, vendor contracts, and consultant relationships.
  • Partner with Engineering, Land & Right-of-Way, Legal, Regulatory, Construction, and external stakeholders.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure safety, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on project status, risks, and resource needs.
