About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Integrated Communications at UL Standards & Engagement . This is a hybrid opportunity based in our Washington, DC office. The Director, Integrated Communications will define and advance the vision, strategy, and execution of an integrated content program that amplifies the UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) mission to create a safer, more secure, and more sustainable world. Operating at the intersection of editorial leadership, digital engagement, and research driven storytelling, the Director, Integrated Communications will establish strategic direction, and shape how ULSE’s research insights and thought leadership reach global audiences across digital channels. The Director, Integrated Communications, will partner closely with executive leadership, technical experts, and policy stakeholders to elevate ULSE’s influence, visibility and impact. Requirements

  • Broad expertise in integrated communications, editorial leadership, digital engagement research and storytelling, with a strong command of tone, voice, and messaging consistency to translate complex material into accessible narratives.
  • Deep understanding of digital ecosystems, audience engagement, and content performance optimization.
  • Experience executing strategy and achieving tangible results.
  • Able to lead integrated content and digital strategy in a mission-driven environment.
  • Established leader, able to set strategic direction, interpret, support, and execute organizational strategy while effectively translating objectives into actionable plans and driving successful execution.
  • Strong people leader, with experience building and sustaining high performing teams.
  • Experience setting expectations while establishing and operationalizing clear goals and enforcing accountability for both processes and results.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills, with ability to develop high performing teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications , Journalism, Digital Media, Public Policy, or related field .
  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of people management experience.
  • Experience interpreting and writing research.

Responsibilities

  • Define and steward integrated content strategy that elevates ULSE’s visibility, credibility, and mission impact.
  • Implement an approach to capitalize on identified opportunities and drive the organization’s expansion and influence within the safety standards landscape.
  • Oversee development and execution of integrated, multi-platform content initiatives across digital channels including web, social, multimedia, and emerging platforms.
  • Manage a full editorial lifecycle and strategic calendar to support campaigns and initiatives, upholding rigorous standards for clarity, consistency, accuracy, and brand voice across all channels.
  • Translate research, survey insights, and technical findings into clear, compelling stories and fit-for-digital assets that advance safer outcomes.
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of professionals, provide strategic direction and serve as mentor to advance capabilities in the area of specialization.
  • Cultivate a collaborative environment to ensure team success and effective execution of high-quality content across articles, videos, reports, website , and social media.
  • Seve as strategic advisor to senior leadership and contribute to cross-functional planning, thought leadership development, and organizational storytelling.
  • Balance long term strategic initiatives with responsive execution tied to emerging issues and opportunities.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to ensure our communications efforts are unified, strategic, and impactful, while elevating relevance for policymakers, industry leaders, regulators and the public.
  • Collaborate across the communications department and frequently with Insights and Partnerships teams to ensure alignment in external communications engagement.
  • Scope and lead end-to-end project plans, ensure deadlines are met, and actively manage milestones and priorities.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, purpose, and accountability within the content and digital team.
  • Maintain continued awareness of industry trends, offering insight to inform strategic decisions and direction of the standards engagement function.
  • Contribute to department initiatives as needed.
