About The Position

The Director, IT is responsible for architecting the technology strategy, platforms, and delivery capabilities for AMA’s Insurance operations. This role provides strategic stewardship of core Insurance platforms, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and integrated into a modern digital ecosystem. The Director will partner with executive leaders to co-create technology plans that improve operations and enhance the member experience, while also advocating for digital modernization and AI enablement to increase productivity and deliver new value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Significant leadership experience in IT.
  • Specialized background in Insurance or financial services technology.
  • Strong technical understanding of modern engineering practices, cloud technologies, and core platforms like Guidewire.
  • Proven ability to lead through change and manage ambiguity in large-scale digital transformations.
  • Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-impact initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of Insurance platform architectures.
  • Comfortable applying machine learning and AI concepts to real-world operational processes and software development workflows.
  • Leadership style rooted in relationship-building to align cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Experience thriving in a regulatory and compliance-focused environment, ensuring technical decisions align with privacy and cybersecurity standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced certifications like PMP or ITIL are significant assets.
  • Experience with AI-powered tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar platforms is a real plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve the Insurance technology strategy, ensuring the roadmap accelerates business goals and AMA’s enterprise transformation agenda.
  • Provide executive leadership over core systems, overseeing the development and integration of underwriting, claims, and billing solutions.
  • Advocate for digital enablement across Insurance functions, championing technologies that improve operational efficiency and digital member experiences.
  • Manage strategic vendor relationships to accelerate modernization and access specialized technical skills.
  • Lead the modernization of the Insurance data platform, advancing API and cloud-based integration capabilities.
  • Supervise and develop high-performing technical teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
