Director, Indirect Procurement
About The Position
The Director, Indirect Procurement is responsible for leading Grainger's North America indirect procurement organization, leading enterprise sourcing strategy, operational excellence, and business transformation to maximize enterprise value. This role oversees approximately $2B in managed spend while managing supplier partnerships, optimizing costs, mitigating risk, and enabling business growth through scalable procurement capabilities. As a key member of the procurement leadership team, the Director leads Category Management, Procurement Operations, and Enterprise Programs, partnering with executive leadership to align procurement strategy with enterprise priorities. This leader is responsible for modernizing the procurement operating model through standardized processes, data-driven decision making, continuous improvement, and the adoption of automation, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies to improve productivity, enhance stakeholder experience, and position Indirect Procurement as a strategic business partner.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance, Operations, Economics, or a related field required
- 12+ years Experience in procurement, supply chain, finance or related required
- 10+ years Experience in a large, complex organization with responsibility for developing leaders, managing managers and professional staff, and leading enterprise procurement operations required
- Experience applying technology, data, automation, and artificial intelligence to transform business processes, improve productivity, enhance decision making, and create scalable operating capabilities.
- Experience leading organizational transformation by building alignment, managing change effectively, influencing stakeholder adoption, and creating sustainable behavioral change across complex organizations.
- Experience designing procurement operating models, standardizing business processes, simplifying workflows, improving productivity, and driving continuous improvement through Lean and technology-enabled solutions.
- Knowledge of procurement strategy, enterprise financial management, supplier risk management, and governance.
- Experience presenting recommendations to senior leadership, facilitating cross-functional decision making, and communicating procurement strategy.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Grainger's North America Indirect Procurement strategy, aligning sourcing, supplier management, enterprise programs, and procurement priorities with business objectives, financial goals, enterprise risk management, and long-term growth.
- Lead and develop a high-performing procurement organization, providing strategic leadership across Category Management, Procurement Operations, and Enterprise Programs while establishing organizational capability, succession planning, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement practices.
- Partner with executive leadership and key business stakeholders to influence enterprise decisions, identify sourcing opportunities, optimize enterprise spend, improve working capital, and deliver measurable business value across approximately $2B in managed spend.
- Lead operational excellence by modernizing procurement processes, governance, and operating models, improving productivity, simplifying workflows, eliminating non-value-added activities, and improving procurement service delivery and process consistency.
- Advance Grainger's procurement digital and data capabilities by leveraging automation, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and modern technologies to enable data-driven decision making, improve productivity, and support procurement decision-making and operational performance.
- Establish and lead enterprise supplier relationship management, including strategic sourcing, complex negotiations, supplier segmentation, performance management, contract governance, innovation, and enterprise risk mitigation to maximize long-term value across Grainger's global supplier network of more than 2,300 partners.
- Provide executive leadership for enterprise procurement programs, including Travel, Fleet, and Driver Reimbursement, while ensuring effective governance, policy compliance, operational excellence, and consistent enterprise-wide execution.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging business risks, leveraging data, analytics, and external insights to continuously strengthen procurement strategies, organizational agility, and enterprise resilience.
