Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
  • Have 8+ years of experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Human Resources
  • Knowledge of US labor law is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • A minimum score of 50 on the Wonderlic Contemporary Select Assessment (Traditional score of 28 on the Cognitive portion).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development and Administration or equivalent degrees in marketing, business or related field is preferred
  • SHRM certification preferred
  • Experience selecting and implementing a global HRIS system
  • Demonstrated prior leadership of a safety management system is preferred
  • Demonstrated prior leadership of leading an environmental system in preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a corporate culture focused on safety, employee development and continuous improvement
  • Ability to formulate concise business cases based off work completed by subordinates and present and answer detailed questions about them to the VP peers and the president
  • Ability to work hands on at a detailed level when needed and understanding of the day to day operations of the HR department
  • Ability to recognize problems and resolve them at all levels of the organization with a positive attitude
  • Tenacious, results orientation with a tireless work ethic, with the emotional intelligence to know when to push harder vs. look for alternate approaches and solutions
  • Ability to set stretch goals and then create, sustain, and focus energy throughout the organization to achieve them

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance and consistent application with all HR, safety, and environmental requirements whether internal standards or legal requirements in all US locations in which Summit operates
  • Collaborate with the executive staff in developing the company’s strategy and then develop and execute HR strategies to further those objectives
  • Lead Summit’s ongoing safety management program
  • Maintain knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, talent management, safety, and environment
  • Use organizational development principles to drive the company’s effectiveness and performance and ability to solve problems through the aligning strategy, structure, people, metrics, rewards, and management processes.
  • Lead continuous improvement activity in the HR function to improve efficiency through eliminating waste and automating and improving processes
  • Lead the talent management process and work with executive peers to ensure the company is training and developing employees and recruiting to successfully to meet our goals
  • Research, develop, and implement competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs
  • Develop methods, systems, and programs to maintain and improve employee relations to keep employees motivated, loyal, and engaged in their work
  • Lead or manage internal investigations of alleged violations of the corporate code of conduct
  • Lead or manage investigations that may involve litigation or losses
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the human resource management team including assisting with the resolution of human resource, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues
  • Develop and execute the annual HR budget
  • Ensure all employee information is kept confidential and secure
