About The Position

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry and is looking for a Director, HR Business Partnership to join their People Team. This role will serve as a strategic partner to the CPO and senior People leaders, operating at the highest levels of the HR function. The individual will be responsible for translating executive priorities into organizational action, building durable frameworks, and bringing structure to complexity. This position will also manage a team of HR Business Partners supporting critical growth functions like Advertising, Commercial, and Supply Chain. The role offers a direct line of sight into how Instacart builds and scales its organization, shaping both HR's service to the business and the People team's operations.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of progressive HRBP experience, including direct support of C-suite or senior executives.
  • 12+ years of overall HR or related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting senior business leaders in complex, fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Prior people management experience with a track record of hiring, developing, and building high-performing HR teams.
  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic and executional levels.
  • Strong organizational design, talent management, and leadership coaching capabilities.
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and ability to navigate ambiguity and sensitive situations with minimal direction.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence across executive leadership, People teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Analytical mindset and comfort using data to drive decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience serving as an HRBP directly to a People or HR function.
  • Experience supporting revenue-generating or go-to-market organizations such as Advertising, Sales, or Marketing.
  • Background building or scaling People programs in high-growth or transformational technology environments.
  • Exposure to M&A, organizational due diligence, or post-acquisition integration.
  • Familiarity with international workforce considerations and globally distributed teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an executive-level advisor to the CPO and broader People leadership.
  • Act as a hands-on people manager for a team of HRBPs supporting critical growth functions.
  • Translate executive priorities into organization-wide action.
  • Develop and implement scalable People frameworks, processes, and workflows for critical cycles such as performance management, talent reviews, workforce planning, and organizational change.
  • Navigate complex organizational challenges, including leadership transitions, capability gaps, workforce changes, and potential M&A activity.
  • Provide a consistent, high-quality HRBP experience to Advertising, Commercial, and adjacent go-to-market organizations, ensuring talent strategies, org designs, and workforce plans are proactive, data-informed, and tied to business growth.
  • Develop and coach the HRBP team to ensure high performance, clarify coverage, and establish a shared standard of partnership quality.
