About The Position

Genentech is seeking a Director, Healthcare Market (HD) for the Rare Disease sector, focusing on the Midwest region. This role is responsible for leading a cross-functional team dedicated to supporting patients, caregivers, healthcare providers (HCPs), and advocacy groups within the Neurological Rare Disease (NRD) and Rare Blood Disorder (RBD) communities. The position requires a strategic approach to patient access, addressing both clinical and access-related questions compliantly, and assisting patients and their caregivers in navigating the healthcare system. The Director will manage multiple products and stakeholders, lead integrated teams, and maintain individual customer accountabilities. The role involves leading and coaching teams responsible for NRD and RBD patient support and demand generation. This is a field-based position covering Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska, with a preference for candidates residing in one of these states. Extensive travel (up to 50%) is required, including potential overnight and weekend commitments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Average of 8 or more years' work experience
  • A minimum of 3 years' previous field management experience, rare disease preferred
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams including access & reimbursement and patient-facing teams preferred
  • Previous account management or alliance/partnership management experience, including developing and implementing account plans for various health ecosystem players
  • Previous cross-functional industry experience in commercial life sciences (pharma or biotechnology) or related industry engaging with key healthcare ecosystem players (e.g., payers, health systems), is required
  • Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets, as well as qualitative goals
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
  • Must submit to and pass additional background screening as required by some institutions and health facility sales accounts.
  • Business travel, by air or car, is regularly required.
  • Weekend work with patient groups is regularly required.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or other related graduate-level degree is preferred
  • Previous direct to patient, clinical education or rare genetic disease experience strongly valued

Responsibilities

  • Leading a cross-functional team focused on supporting patients, caregivers, HCPs, and advocacy needs within the NRD and RBD communities.
  • Ensuring clinical and access questions are compliantly addressed for patients, caregivers, and HCP accounts, as well as other geographically aligned stakeholders.
  • Strategically managing business opportunities and leading highly integrated teams while maintaining individual customer accountabilities.
  • Leading and coaching roles across two therapeutic areas: the RBD team and the NRD team, including RBD Account Managers, NRD Patient Assistance Liaisons, and NRD Account Managers.
  • Understanding the unique needs of each rare disease customer to improve patient outcomes.
  • Supporting brand goals and targets by working closely with key business partners such as Brand Marketing, Sales Operations, Specialty Pharmacies, Commercial Training & Development, and Access Solutions.
  • Executing short-term priorities and strategic vision in the local ecosystem by engaging in partnerships that improve the customer experience, patient outcomes, and business opportunities.
  • Contributing to national therapeutic area strategies through sharing local insights and priorities.
  • Leading the development and execution of customer account planning for target accounts to deliver maximum impact opportunities.
  • Coaching to compliance for specialized rare disease roles.
  • Building, leading, and motivating a diverse team with deep functional and therapeutic area expertise.
  • Harnessing the collective expertise of the ecosystem team to engage effectively and compliantly across the ecosystem.
  • Creating and fostering a culture that enables employees to live the Operating Principles.
  • Potentially managing portfolio accounts and/or payer responsibilities based on ecosystem needs.
  • Representing the organization at weekend conferences and community events.
  • Complying with all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures governing Genentech activities.
