About The Position

The Director of Health Sciences provides strategic and operational leadership for Rogue Community College's Health Sciences division, which includes Nursing, Allied Health, and Emergency Services programs. The Director fosters excellence in teaching and learning, student success, and program quality. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, healthcare and emergency services partners, and college leadership, the Director oversees academic programs, accreditation and regulatory compliance, personnel, and program operations while promoting continuous improvement to ensure programs remain responsive to evolving community and regional workforce needs. Reporting to the Dean of Healthcare and Education, the Director serves as a key partner in advancing RCC's commitment to student success, workforce development, and community engagement. This role provides leadership in academic affairs, personnel management, accreditation oversight, strategic planning, and external partnerships that support high-quality education and training across the Health Sciences division and meet the healthcare and public safety workforce needs of the region.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education, higher education leadership, educational administration, organizational leadership, healthcare administration, public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in postsecondary education, career and technical education, workforce education, healthcare education, or a comparably complex educational organization, including responsibility for academic program planning, curriculum, assessment, scheduling, student success, program evaluation, accreditation, or continuous improvement.
  • Two (2) of the five (5) years must include experience in a formal supervisory, management, or department chair/coordinating role directing employees, evaluating performance, and supporting organizational effectiveness.
  • Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609.
  • Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
  • Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).
  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership for assigned Health Sciences programs.
  • Leads program planning, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Supports curriculum development, instructional quality, student learning assessment, and program review.
  • Coordinates instructional resources, including faculty assignments, scheduling, laboratories, simulation resources, and clinical or work-based learning opportunities.
  • Promotes student success by ensuring programs remain accessible, effective, and responsive to workforce needs.
  • Recruits, supervises, mentors, and evaluates faculty, managers, classified staff, and other assigned personnel.
  • Fosters a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable work environment through effective communication, coaching, and professional development.
  • Coordinates onboarding, workload planning, performance management, and employee development in accordance with college policies and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Promotes employee engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, institutional policies, and professional licensing expectations.
  • Coordinates accreditation reviews, regulatory reporting, self-studies, site visits, and corrective action activities.
  • Monitors program quality through assessment, data analysis, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Maintains documentation and systems necessary to demonstrate ongoing compliance.
  • Develops and implements short- and long-range plans supporting enrollment, staffing, budgeting, facilities, equipment, and program sustainability.
  • Manages assigned budgets and resources responsibly while supporting institutional priorities.
  • Analyzes enrollment, workforce, financial, and program data to support informed decision making and resource allocation.
  • Recommends program enhancements, expansion, reduction, or program teach-out strategies.
  • Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, employers, accrediting agencies, community organizations, and other external partners.
  • Cultivates and supports clinical placements, work-based learning opportunities, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Represents the college on committees, advisory groups, and professional organizations as assigned.
  • Identifies opportunities that strengthen community partnerships, student opportunities, and regional workforce responsiveness.
  • Participates in institutional committees and cross-functional initiatives as assigned.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
