About The Position

We are currently looking for a Director, Group Accounting Policies, in the Corporate Finance team who will play an important role in supporting our growth. In this senior role, the Director will provide practical leadership on Group accounting policies, IFRS interpretation, complex transactions, and related financial reporting matters across the organization. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior finance leaders and business partners, the Director will translate technical requirements into clear, business-oriented guidance that strengthens accounting governance and supports informed decision-making. Reporting to the Vice-President, Group Financial Controller, the Director will lead the Group Accounting Policies function and work closely with senior finance leaders and business partners across the organization.

Requirements

  • Professional designation required (CPA or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in large, complex and/or multinational environments, including accounting, advisory services, audit, or equivalent business experience, with demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Deep technical knowledge of IFRS and demonstrated ability to apply accounting standards to complex business transactions.
  • Track record of leading or supporting the adoption and implementation of new or amended IFRS standards.
  • Strong analytical, judgment, and synthesis skills, with a pragmatic approach to complex matters and the ability to communicate clear technical positions to senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in English and French, with the ability to influence and advise senior leaders.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills, with the ability to coach, develop, and engage a high-performing team.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and influence outcomes.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical judgment.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) – Need to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking clientele and colleagues across the country.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Group Accounting Policy function, providing senior guidance to business units and Corporate Finance on complex accounting matters and significant transactions.
  • Play a key advisory role in major strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, by assessing accounting implications, advising on purchase price allocation matters, and providing practical guidance on complex accounting considerations.
  • Own and continuously enhance Group accounting policies, ensuring consistent IFRS application across all entities and driving high-quality financial reporting.
  • Monitor new or amended IFRS requirements, assess their impact on the Group, and provide practical guidance to support timely implementation.
  • Drive adoption of new standards and accounting changes, partnering with finance leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver compliant and practical solutions.
  • Prepare and review technical accounting position papers for complex transactions, ensuring conclusions are robust, audit-ready, aligned with IFRS, and reflective of the underlying business substance.
  • Provide oversight of the annual goodwill and intangible assets impairment testing process, including key judgments, assumptions, documentation, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Partner with External Reporting to develop clear and complete financial statement disclosures for complex transactions, key judgments/estimates, and IFRS changes, ensuring clarity, completeness, and consistency.
  • Act as a primary contact with external auditors on technical accounting matters, supporting clear documentation, timely responses, and efficient resolution of audit inquiries.
  • Build and lead a high-performing technical accounting team, including hiring, coaching, performance management, compensation input, and a structured learning & development plan.
