About The Position

The Director, Grants will provide strategy and consultation for grant-related fundraising opportunities, develop customized grant resources, and provide full project management and writing for select proposals, reports, letters of inquiry and other grant-related deliverables. This role is part of the Field Fundraising team, which is charged with developing and executing a long-term vision and strategy to achieve development goals for both public and private funding. The Director will partner with Executive Directors, regional staff, and other front-line fundraisers to maximize giving in the private and public sectors, raising $1-5 million or more from a portfolio of major corporate, foundation, and public donors.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of related experience in development and grant writing
  • Highly skilled relationship builder and collaborator, with both internal and external partners
  • Strong ability to manage up and sideways to ensure grant deliverables are met and grant content is compelling
  • Proven track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals
  • Experience managing a diverse portfolio of institutional donors/funders from the public and private sector
  • Strong ability to monitor fundraising progress against portfolio goals to ensure portfolio is on track to meet goals; able to adjust course as necessary in response to evolving contexts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of best practices of grant-based fundraising
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple deadlines at the same time
  • Able to leverage historical and local development trends to inform grant direction and strategy
  • Experience with managing and writing complex public grants
  • Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals as a fundraiser and grant writer

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the MD of Grants, VPFF, local portfolio managers, and Executive Directors to deliver a shared grant writing service field-based teams with the goal of maximizing revenue to the organization as a whole
  • Manage and write 75+ proposals, reports, letters of intent, and other grant-related deliverables for multiple regional development teams.
  • Manage and execute the grant cycle processes (strategy, drafting, finalizing, and submission) for a portfolio of funders
  • Consistently track all deadlines and deliverables in the CRM database
  • Liaise and coordinate with national central teams (finance, data, public partnerships, etc.) and regional teams (Executive Directors, Development, Program, etc.) as needed.
  • Occasionally support non-portfolio grants or multi-region grants
  • In partnership with others on the Development team, build standard language, templates, and resources for all cohort fundraisers
  • Steward team and organizational initiatives
