About The Position

Toast is hiring a Director of People Analytics to turn trusted people data into business decisions about its workforce and strengthen the business impact of People programs. Toast has established a cloud data warehouse, self-service dashboards, an AI-enabled insights product, an employee listening program, and data science capabilities. The role will advance this foundation from standardized analytics to strategic partnership, helping business leaders make important talent decisions. The Director will lead a distributed team across data engineering, analytics, data science, and employee listening, based in the US and India. The role reports to the leader of Talent Infrastructure and collaborates with business leaders, People leadership, Finance, IT, and AI and data partners. Its purpose is to answer people questions that span Toast’s data and ensure the answers influence decisions. Toast uses a hybrid work model that supports in-person collaboration while accommodating individual needs; in-office expectations vary by region. Compensation includes a base salary determined by skills, experience, and geographic location, as well as eligible cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The listed base salary ranges are $195,000–$312,000 in Zone A, $169,000–$270,000 in Zone B, and $152,000–$243,000 in Zone C.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in people analytics, workforce analytics, or business analytics.
  • 4+ years leading teams of analysts, engineers, or data scientists.
  • Demonstrated ability to use analysis to change a senior business leader’s decision, not only decisions made by People team leaders.
  • Ability to translate complex findings into clear recommendations executives can act on, and coach others to do the same.
  • Experience setting metric definitions and governance, including establishing an official contested metric such as headcount across the People team and Finance.
  • Experience measuring and improving the business impact of People programs with a Finance partner, and judging when a pilot or comparison group is appropriate versus when an approximation is sufficient.
  • Ability to reset stakeholder expectations, decline lower-value work, and shift a team from reactive requests to strategic priorities.
  • Experience leading a team through change, building a strong bench, and developing team members’ visibility with executives.
  • Technical depth sufficient to make sound decisions about data architecture, modern data stacks such as Snowflake, and analytics tooling.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-growth or public company with several thousand employees.
  • Familiarity with industrial-organizational psychology or selection science, such as validating predictors of success in a role.
  • Experience bringing AI and large language models into analytics products.
  • Experience leading global teams.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate the vision, North Star, and roadmap for People Analytics, securing support from People and business leaders.
  • Own People data and reporting strategy, including metric definitions, governance, and data trust.
  • Partner with AI and data teams to ensure People data supports AI-enabled insights safely and responsibly.
  • Build lasting partnerships with leaders across major business areas and the People team.
  • Turn analysis into clear stories and recommendations that leaders act on, and build this capability across the team.
  • Design and run program impact measurement with Finance, from adoption through business outcomes and return on investment.
  • Ensure new People programs above a defined cost or reach threshold launch with a measurement plan.
  • Lead, develop, and retain a distributed team across data engineering, analytics, data science, and employee listening.
  • Run a scalable service model based on self-service, clear intake, and prioritization by business value.
  • Prepare governance-grade workforce analysis for senior leadership and board committees.
  • Manage partnerships with privacy, legal, People technology, and data engineering teams.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits programs.
  • Base salary, eligible cash compensation such as overtime and bonus/commissions, and equity.
  • Benefits intended to support a healthy lifestyle and flexibility for changing needs.
