About The Position

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. CHAI works with governments and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems. Founded in 2002, CHAI has expanded its focus from HIV/AIDS to include infectious diseases like COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. The organization also works to accelerate vaccine rollouts, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. CHAI invests in strengthening health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing, with a strategy focused on sustainable impact at scale, government leadership, national scalability, and global knowledge sharing. Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in the life sciences sector including pharmaceutical and diagnostic products companies and/or related experience
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership and supervisory role, with demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, evaluate, and develop staff and contribute to the fostering of a diverse and results-oriented team
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical and diagnostic company business models, specifically in the emerging markets
  • Exceptional product and policy negotiation skills, with the ability to achieve large-scale impact
  • Exceptional strategic development skills with the ability to identify and pursue high-impact strategies in complex, uncertain and evolving environments
  • Exceptional analytical (quantitative and qualitative) and communication (written and oral) skills, including the ability to communicative effectively with people of varied professional and cultural backgrounds
  • Exceptional ability to build innovative international partnerships with highly diverse partners
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, including ability to work independently, self-motivate, and propose and implement new initiatives
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, limited-structure, high-pressure, multicultural environment
  • Detail-oriented with strong organization skills
  • Proven project management skills, based on several years of experience in strategic, operational, and financial management of complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in English (written and verbal), with the ability to develop and maintain trusted relationships internally and externally
  • Experience managing high performing teams and mentoring team members
  • Experience managing budgets and revenue forecasts
  • Ability to travel 30-50% of CHAI’s regions of operation, and work across multiple time zones, as necessary

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with CHAI's country and program leadership teams to develop, lead, and/or support execution of market-shaping strategies and programs globally and in-country.
  • Provide inspiration and thought leadership to peers and team members as a member of GMT's Senior Leadership Team (reporting to the VP/head of GMT).
  • Work alongside the VP to define, build, and maintain a “fit for purpose” GMT structure, including a “One Team” approach with program and country teams.
  • Lead and manage a high-performing, diverse team based in the US, India, Africa, and Europe, working cross-functionally to deliver on GMT and program goals.
  • Enlist, develop, and mentor high-potential talent.
  • Hold budgetary responsibility for the team; potentially manage GMT grants and/or co-manage large program grants.
  • Serve as a senior negotiator, leading negotiations on key market-shaping interventions and mentoring staff on supplier negotiations.
  • Define program strategies and lead execution of their market-shaping aspects.
  • Create and manage opportunities for CHAI's sector influence (e.g., at strategic global fora) to strengthen its position as a global market shaper.
  • Engage in business development, manage donor relationships, support major grant submissions, build relationships with peers in funding organizations, and develop innovative programs that attract new donors.
