About The Position

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state. Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets. As a federal Crown corporation, Trans Mountain continues to build on more than 70 years of experience delivering operational and safety excellence through our crude oil pipeline system. With our expanded pipeline system now in place, Trans Mountain provides enhanced direct access for Canadian crude oil to world markets. Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as Director, Fundamentals & Market Analytics. In this position, you will play a key role in being responsible for leading and further developing the team accountable for conducting in-depth analysis and delivering market insights and intelligence on a global scale to support Trans Mountain’s ongoing commercial and strategic activity. Responsibilities will span multiple time horizons, and multiple market segments along the value chain including production, storage, pipeline and waterborne transport, and downstream refining markets, as well as pricing.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Economics, Business, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive, relevant experience.
  • Strong commercial acumen with exposure to/background in trading, deal structuring/origination, and business development is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of regional, North American, and global oil markets, including WCSB supply, logistics, pricing, quality, and refining; refined products and petrochemicals experience would be an asset.
  • Strong analytical leadership, sound judgment, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex market insights into clear, actionable recommendations for diverse stakeholders.
  • A supportive and collaborative leader with strong people management skills, who values mentoring and coaching to build high-performing teams, communicates with empathy and clarity in challenging situations, and adapts with agility as business needs evolve.
  • A consistent track record of delivering high‑quality work while managing competing priorities and supporting key business processes and operational functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
  • Ability to build long-term business relationships and partnerships, with a focus on win-win negotiation outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree (MBA, in Economics, Finance, or Energy Studies) is an asset.
  • Refined products and petrochemicals experience would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Steward existing processes around data procurement, model building/maintenance and analytics while driving continuous improvements and enhancements.
  • Drive timely and fit for purpose delivery and reporting of insights and intelligence at multiple levels within the company including Business Development & Commercial Services, the Executive, Board and other stakeholder groups including Finance, Corporate Communications and Corporate Planning.
  • Set the direction for new research initiatives and one-off market studies and expand the scope of market analytics capabilities as deemed appropriate.
  • Set and manage team priorities as needs evolve.
  • Manage subscriptions and engagements with external service providers and consultants.
  • Deliver annual pipeline throughput and revenue forecast.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships to facilitate informal information sharing and intelligence gathering.
  • Foster collaboration and communication between various cross-functional groups within the company; build and maintain internal relationships to facilitate the acquisition of information and the widespread adoption of the group’s product.
  • Identify and advocate for resources needed to meet requirements.
