Associate Director, Market Access Deal Analytics

AstraZenecaBoston, MA
$147,908 - $221,862Hybrid

About The Position

This Boston-based role serves as the enterprise lead for deal analytics, focusing on shaping strategies for US Market Access contracts to drive sustainable growth and patient impact, particularly for individuals with rare diseases. The position is responsible for the analytical framework that guides high-stakes negotiations and leadership decisions, encompassing pre-deal modeling, assumption development, pull-through measurement, and post-deal value realization. The work directly links contract terms to real-world outcomes, supporting disciplined management of Gross-to-Net (GTN), margin, and return on investment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Finance, Economics, Business, Life Sciences, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech analytics with deep focus on payer contracting or pricing analytics
  • Strong experience in pre-deal modeling, assumption development, and post-deal evaluation
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Validated ability to communicate sophisticated analyses to senior leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in rare disease or specialty products
  • Familiarity with GTN concepts and payer contracting structures
  • Experience with SQL, Snowflake, Tableau, or Power BI

Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance pre-deal models to evaluate payer and IDN contract scenarios, quantify financial impact, and weigh risk trade-offs.
  • Co-create and validate core assumptions using historical performance, external benchmarks, and product/payer analogs.
  • Establish rapid prototyping approaches that accelerate negotiations and clarify decision-making.
  • Build and maintain scalable analytical frameworks and data processes that deliver repeatable, high-quality deal evaluations.
  • Define consistent business rules and assumptions across contracting analyses.
  • Partner with data and reporting teams to secure timely access to critical datasets and improve methodologies, sensitivities, and documentation standards.
  • Engineer measurement approaches aligned to deal structures and assumptions.
  • Define clear success criteria—volume lift, new starts, adherence, return on investment, exit share—and link them to behavioral and financial outcomes.
  • Set leading indicators (access status change, PA removal, field engagement, early NBRx trends) and lagging indicators (TRx lift, net revenue, rebate realization) that signal performance early and at maturity.
  • Lead rigorous post-deal evaluations comparing realized volume, GTN, margin, and access outcomes to modeled expectations.
  • Decompose variance to isolate drivers such as assumption gaps, competitive shifts, operational barriers, and uptake timing.
  • Recommend corrective actions—field targeting shifts, payer re-engagement, contract renegotiation, or exit—and translate findings into updated modeling guardrails and targeting criteria to continuously improve deal quality and return on investment rigor.
  • Serve as the primary analytics partner to Contracting, Pricing, Market Access leadership, Finance, and Legal.
  • Deliver executive-ready insights that articulate trade-offs, risks, GTN impact, and value.
  • Influence contracting strategy with clear, data-driven recommendations that advance access and business performance.
