Director, Fuel Supply & Hedging

Net Power•Houston, TX

About The Position

Net Power is seeking an experienced Director, Fuel Supply & Hedging. As the Director you will own the natural gas sourcing and delivery that underpins the first project and the Company's broader project pipeline — from supply contracting and pipeline interconnects through the hedging program that protects the project's economics. In addition to securing physical supply, the role serves as the Company's primary point of contact with Energy Service Agreement (ESA) customers on gas price risk — identifying, structuring, presenting, and executing hedges on their behalf, and providing ongoing market insight to support their own price-exposure management. This is a build-and-run role: the successful candidate will stand up the fuel supply function from a near-blank slate and then operate it through construction and into commercial operation. This role is based on-site in Houston, TX. Net Power offers a hybrid work schedule, 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Occasional travel to project sites may be required. Project site visits require completion of site safety orientation and use of personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • 10–15 years of experience in natural gas supply, origination, trading, or structuring, with meaningful exposure to Permian Basin and/or Gulf Coast markets.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating gas purchase agreements, firm transportation agreements, and pipeline interconnect agreements.
  • Working fluency in gas price indices and basis relationships (Henry Hub, Waha, HSC) and in NAESB/ISDA contract structures.
  • Direct experience with physical and financial hedging program for natural gas volumes.
  • Experience presenting hedging strategies, market analysis, and risk recommendations directly to customers or counterparties, with interpersonal and communication skills to explain complex price-risk concepts to non-specialist audiences.
  • Familiarity with fuel supply requirements for power generation; experience with behind-the-meter generation, IPPs, or large industrial loads is a strong plus.
  • Track record operating in a fast-moving, deadline-driven development environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, engineering, economics, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree a plus.
  • Willingness to travel (< 25%) to attend customer meetings and visit project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Development team to screen and prioritize new project sites, incorporating gas pipeline proximity, interconnect feasibility, and supply cost and availability as a core site-selection criterion.
  • Serve as the commercial organization's subject-matter expert on regional gas market and infrastructure when advising Development and executive leadership on prospective sites.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with market participants including producers, marketers, hedge-providers and pipeline developers/ operators.
  • Monitor natural gas market fundamentals and dynamics; proactively share market insights with customers to support their own gas price-exposure management.
  • Identify and evaluate gas interconnect and supply opportunities for projects across Net Power's development pipeline
  • Lead natural gas sourcing strategy; structure supply for individual projects and portfolio that support schedule and aligns with structure of ESAs with consideration to risk, term and cost; negotiate gas supply agreements with producers and marketers in collaboration with Legal.
  • Negotiate interconnect and firm transportation agreements with relevant pipeline operators.
  • Track progress of interconnect projects and update Operations team on schedule and potential risk to delivery.
  • Own the redundancy architecture (dual pipeline connections, redundant laterals, diversity of supply and counterparties) so that no single pipeline or producer outage can interrupt fuel delivery to a firm-availability asset.
  • Negotiate and execute ISDA/NAESB agreements with hedge providers, in coordination with Legal and Finance.
  • Identify, structure, present, and execute hedges (financial swaps, basis swaps, collars, and other structures) on behalf of customers under negotiated ESAs, subject to customer approval and applicable ISDA/NAESB agreements.
  • Assist customers with the ongoing management of their gas price exposure, including scenario analysis, hedge performance reporting, and recommendations to adjust hedge ratios or tenor as market conditions or volumes change.
  • Ensure all gas procurement and hedging activities meet the negotiated standard required under various ESAs — documenting sourcing decisions and pricing rationale so procurement stands up to Buyer's audit rights.
  • Own the fuel-related items on the project risk register, and present hedge positions and contract status to the Head of Commercial and executive leadership.
  • Manage gas supply and price-risk obligations arising under other negotiated PPAs across the portfolio, tailoring procurement and hedging strategy to each agreement's fuel cost, index, and risk-allocation provisions.
  • Maintain the gas burn forecast by project and track against contracted supply and transportation requirements.
  • Partner closely with Engineering (fuel gas delivery system design, dual-pipeline architecture), Project Execution (permitting and interconnect critical path), Finance/Treasury (hedge accounting and ESA economics), Development (site selection and gas infrastructure screening for new projects), and Legal (GSA/TSA negotiation), and customers/PPA counterparties (hedge structuring, execution, and ongoing price-risk reporting).
