About The Position

The Director of Athletic Business Operations provides leadership and oversight for the daily financial and administrative functions of the Department of Athletics. This role manages complex budgeting processes, contract administration, and operational systems while ensuring compliance with University, NCAA, and conference policies. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director for Finance & Administration, the Director serves as the primary liaison to campus finance partners and plays a key role in strategic resource planning for Furman’s 18 NCAA Division I sport programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of four years of progressive experience in athletics administration, business operations, or financial management.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising staff and managing complex budgets.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build collaborative relationships across campus and externally.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business, sports administration, or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with enterprise financial systems such as Workday preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily business operations for the department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reconciliation, and compliance with University financial reporting standards.
  • Serve as primary liaison to the University Campus Finance Office to coordinate financial processes and resolve issues.
  • Supervise and develop three administrative assistants, ensuring high-quality service and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with the Associate Athletics Director for Finance & Administration to lead budget development, forecasting, and multi-year financial planning.
  • Oversee execution, compliance, and recordkeeping for all athletic contracts, including competition, facility, vendor, and service agreements.
  • Administer revenue reconciliation and settlement processes for athletics ticketed events and other hosted events.
  • Lead training efforts for staff on Workday, Red Card, and departmental budget processes.
  • Manage the Red Card per diem system and ensure proper distribution and documentation.
  • Oversee department vehicle and golf cart programs, including inventory, maintenance, and compliance.
  • Coordinate onboarding and payroll setup for new hires and student workers.
  • Serve as a resource for University policies, procedures, and process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all applicable Federal, State, Conference, Institutional, and NCAA rules and regulations.
