About The Position
Western Digital is seeking a Director Firmware Engineering to lead firmware, hardware, and associated tooling development for HDD systems. The role works with stakeholders and development teams on real-time HDD motion and parameter control microarchitecture, instruction set architecture, firmware architecture, toolchains, and servo-control firmware. It also supports business and technical objectives through coordination with a geographically distributed international development team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- At least 10 years of experience in embedded architecture and development.
- At least 10 years of experience as an embedded/firmware technical leader.
- Strong leadership and commitment to results.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, including presentation skills, across worldwide engineering teams in English.
Nice To Haves
- Master's degree or relevant certification.
- PhD, specialist qualification, or relevant certification with platform architecture.
Responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders to implement HDD real-time motion and parameter-control microarchitecture, instruction set architecture, firmware architecture, and associated toolchains.
- Work with stakeholders to implement HDD firmware related to servo control.
- Participate in team meetings and lead hardware, firmware, and associated tooling development, communicating with geographically distributed international teams to support business and technical objectives.
- Define hardware, firmware, and associated tools designs with stakeholders and development teams.
- Negotiate priorities with stakeholders.
- Ensure strong execution of identified hardware, firmware, and associated tools strategy.
