About The Position

The Director of Finance plays a key role in helping leading venture-stage firms build their businesses by providing in-depth financial and analytical guidance. This person will operate with a high level of independence and will be accountable for client success from an accounting, finance and customer service perspective. This senior finance professional is responsible for managing client deliverables and priorities with strategic support from VP/CFO. This is an excellent opportunity to learn the complexities and interdependencies of early-stage, high-growth companies across a variety of industries: E-commerce, Technology, CPG and Professional services.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in finance-focused roles
  • BA in Finance, Accounting or Economics
  • Solid experience in firms’ business operations and ability to set up systems and processes to ensure firm-wide controls
  • Superior financial modeling and presentation skills
  • Comfort with data and ambiguity, and an ability to delve into details and adapt priorities on the fly
  • Good communication skills with the ability to distill complex thoughts and strategies into simple, actionable recommendations to Propeller team as well as our clients
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple client workstreams and respond to ad-hoc requests to support business decisions in timely and efficient manner
  • Ability and desire to teach others within the organization to help grow the broader internal FP&A skill set
  • Deep understanding of the workings of the CPG, Ecommerce or Tech industries

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work in consultation with clients’ executive leadership teams to understand the intricate operational drivers of the client’s business
  • Ability to identify KPIs and develop methods to measure and track against them
  • Guide all close calls, combining experience in accounting with expertise in forecasting and modeling to help client leverage past history to guide future decisions
  • Ability to manage complex client relationships independently, responding professionally when challenged
  • Full ownership of client engagements requiring only occasional input from CFO
  • Additional focus on industry analysis and industry-level metrics
  • Lead and direct fundraising (equity/debt) due diligence process
  • Cap table management and understanding of various equity and debt instruments
  • Assess and review 409A valuations
  • Present Board materials to client management and Board members
  • Provide mentorship on FP&A issues to junior members on the finance team
  • Serve as trusted advisor to client for all FP&A and accounting issues
