About The Position

The Operational Finance Director ("Director") for Avera at Home serves as the finance leader representing the finance interests of Avera at Home and its operations. The Director will work closely with Avera at Home operational teams and other finance leaders to effectuate integrated system finance strategies across all locations, collaborate on issues of importance to Avera at Home leaders, and work to ensure future financial strategies are executed in such a way that consistency of financial statements, collaboration across sites, and comparative financial analyses are preserved. The Director continually seeks to identify areas of opportunity aimed at revenue growth, cost savings, and addressing operating plan shortfalls for all sites. The Director also provides valuable feedback that furthers continuous process improvement and the provision of high quality financial services to meet the unique needs of Avera at Home across all functional areas of the consolidated finance team. Lastly, the Director works closely with the Operational Finance Officer for the Avera McKennan Region to identify opportunities for service integration, financial optimization, and apply the most effective allocation of resources to complicated projects.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of financial management experience in the health care environment.
  • Progressive and responsible financial management experience.
  • Knowledge of health care delivery system and/or healthcare financial reporting.
  • Must be able to work the hours specified.
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.

  • Bachelor's in accounting/finance, healthcare administration, or health care related field.

Responsibilities

  • Leads collaboration efforts with Avera at Home leadership and other finance teams within Avera to communicate and collaborate on Avera at Home operational and regulatory changes impacting financial performance.
  • Works with Avera at Home leaders on proposing and operationalizing system strategies aimed at growing revenue in alignment with Avera strategies and under the direction of the Operational Finance Office for the Avera McKennan Region.
  • Lead research approaches that identify and operationalize cost savings opportunities across Avera at Home operations under direct responsibility as well as other Avera operational areas that may be indirectly affected.
  • Directs Avera at Home analytic resources in the research and identification of root-cause issues contributing to operating plan variation.
  • Directs the ideation of operational strategies selected to address identified operating plan shortfalls, while considering implications to the consolidated Avera system.
  • Evaluates financial statements in collaboration with Avera at Home leaders to understand, communicate, and resolve problems associated with financial results that are inconsistent with operational realities.
  • Leads the process of financial statement analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly trend basis for Avera at Home to monitor trends over time.
  • Addresses Avera at Home leader needs relative to finance issues, escalating issues to the Operational Finance Officer for the Avera McKennan Region and the System Vice President for Business Planning and Economics, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates with Avera at Home leaders in the development of their long-range plan, capital plan, and operating plan in conformity with methodologies, timeframes and action plans set forth by the Financial Planning Team.
  • Represents Avera finance leadership on Avera at Home’s operations council and participates on approved councils and committees to represent finance at individual sites, as needed.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
