About The Position

The Nuclear Company is a rapidly growing AI tech-enabled startup in the nuclear and energy sector, focused on deploying the next generation of nuclear reactors through a scalable, design-once, build-many model. The Director of Finance, Services will lead the financial operations for the Services segment, which is expanding through acquisitions and organic growth. This role involves owning planning, forecasting, contract economics, and deal support, acting as the primary finance partner to the Services organization while reporting to the VP, Nuclear Finance. The position requires building and leading a finance team capable of supporting acquisitions and maintaining financial discipline. Success hinges on navigating both the operational aspects of a labor-intensive services business and the requirements of group planning and reporting.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including FP&A leadership and operating or segment finance ownership.
  • Working command of ASC 606 for service contracts: time and materials, cost plus, and fixed price.
  • Experience partnering directly with operational P&L owners and translating operating strategy into financial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated M&A finance exposure: diligence, deal models, or integration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA and/or MBA.
  • Field services, nuclear, utilities, or industrial services experience; comfort with craft labor economics (utilization, per diems, pass-through costs).
  • Track record of value creation in an acquisitive (buy-and-build) environment.
  • NetSuite or comparable ERP fluency.
  • Hands-on experience deploying AI and automation in core finance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day finance partner to Services operating leaders and P&L owners, owning the financial narrative for the Services P&L.
  • Apply financial rigor and challenge to the business, influencing pricing, rate cards, bidding, and margin decisions.
  • Deliver decision-quality analysis on job profitability, unit economics, labor utilization, backlog, and working capital.
  • Manage the monthly operating review process with Services leadership.
  • Own the Services annual operating plan, rolling forecast, and long-range plan, integrating acquired businesses into a unified segment operating model.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the segment, including job margin, utilization, backlog-to-bill, DSO, and working capital.
  • Maintain forecast accuracy standards for executive and board reporting.
  • Oversee segment and line-of-business contract classification at inception, collaborating with the Controller's team on revenue recognition.
  • Maintain current and defensible rate cards, including for related-party engagements, and provide financial review for all material bids.
  • Support deal finance for the Services acquisition program, including financial diligence, deal models, and integration planning.
  • Partner with Corporate Development and the CAO organization on opening balance sheets and post-acquisition true-ups.
  • Hold acquired businesses accountable to the financial premises of their deals.
  • Deliver segment-grade Services reporting aligned with corporate reporting structures.
  • Prepare Services content for board and executive leadership reviews.
  • Build and deploy AI tools and agentic workflows for Services planning, forecasting, and reporting, scaling the function through AI.
  • Partner on standardizing acquired businesses onto TNC's ERP and finance systems.
  • Hire, develop, and lead Services finance managers, building bench strength.
  • Establish a finance operating model that can absorb acquisitions without proportional headcount growth.
