About The Position

The Director, Field Medical Affairs – Obesity leads and grows Zealand Pharma’s national obesity-focused Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team, translating scientific strategy into field impact. The role is a senior field medical partner to US Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Commercial leadership, and contributes to thought leader engagement, KOL interactions, and launch readiness for the obesity and metabolic pipeline. The Director coaches and develops MSLs, builds team capability, and leads field medical launch planning for new obesity assets. The role also carries accountability for field operations, regulatory and compliance standards, budget, and resource allocation.

The Field Director, West Coast, reports to the VP of US Medical Affairs and is one of two regional Field Director roles leading the field-based Medical Affairs presence for Zealand Pharma’s obesity/metabolic health franchise. The position oversees a geographically assigned portion of the combined East/West MSL team and partners with US and Global Medical Affairs leadership and cross-functional launch teams to support consistent scientific engagement and field medical strategy execution. The role is remote and requires up to 40% domestic travel.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) required.
• At least 7 years of experience, as stated in the posting, which notes increased seniority.
• At least 3–5 years managing or leading MSL teams.
• Proven launch experience, including building MSL launch plans.
• Demonstrated success building, scaling, and developing high-performing field teams.
• Deep understanding of the US regulatory and compliance landscape governing field medical activities.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 40%, including field rides and national and regional meetings.
• Excellent people skills; a relatable and enjoyable colleague.

Responsibilities

• Lead, scale, and evolve the national obesity-focused MSL team; set goals, KPIs, and strategic territory plans.
• Serve as the senior field medical partner to cross-functional leadership across Medical, Clinical, and Commercial.
• Contribute to US thought leader engagement strategy and represent MSL leadership in high-level KOL interactions.
• Coach, develop, and performance-manage MSLs, building bench strength and scientific excellence across the team.
• Lead field medical launch planning for new obesity assets.
• Ensure field operations meet regulatory, compliance, and budget standards, with accountability for resource allocation.
• Advocate for the needs of the field team and ensure team members are prepared to execute the medical strategy.
• Partner with US Medical Affairs leadership, Global Medical Affairs, and cross-functional launch teams to support consistent scientific engagement and regional field medical strategy execution.
