About The Position

The Director of Operations will provide overall administrative direction and coordination for the operational and financial management of a Duke University Health System entity. The Director of Operations may be responsible for financial management, human resources management, operations improvement, and participating in setting strategic direction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience, at least 5 of those are supervisory.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the administration, coordination, performance and monitoring of operational and business activities of the entity, working collaboratively with senior administrative and physician management.
  • Ensure the development, implementation and compliance with applicable DUHS policies and procedures.
  • Maintain liaison with all levels of administration, physicians and outside organizations to coordinate entity business, accomplish directives and facilitate the resolution of problems.
  • Responsible for the management of the operational department budgets including the analysis of expenses and monthly reports, and the creation of an annual budget. Create and communicate budget reports. Monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate interpretation and application of human resource policies and procedures. Interpret and administer policies pertaining to the recruitment and retention of employees. Manage various personnel issues.
  • May implement and manage clinical procedures and regulatory processes relating to patient flow and budgets including the regulatory affairs, professional fees, billing and insurance, the maintenance and retention of related records.
  • May analyze operations and needs to determine potential enhancements or improvements to clinic procedures and activities. Recommend appropriate actions or solutions consistent with overall goals.
  • May be responsible for leading business development activities including coordinating the design and production of marketing materials, managing advertising and other promotional campaigns, and/or coordinating the up- fitting or renovation of Duke facilities.
  • Perform new equipment and service coordination by evaluating purchase, storage, installation and initiation of new services/equipment.
  • Assess and communicate recommendations for utilization of space, space needs, equipment, personnel and other resources as needed to meet patient needs.
  • Maintain hospital plant and equipment in optimal condition. Assist in the enforcement of interim life safety plans and infection control risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, federal law, TJC standards, applicable national organizations, and hospital policies. Ensure maintenance of appropriate records. Ensure continued compliance with same by department employees in an ongoing and orderly manner (clear audit trail).
