About The Position

The Director, Expanded Learning Programs provides operational support to Expanded Learning Programs by guiding and advising Beyond the Bell staff, site administrators, and contracted program providers on Expanded Learning Programs, including matters related to high-quality programming, school safety, emergency preparedness and response, student attendance, child abuse reporting, student discipline, facilities, and equity and compliance issues.

Requirements

  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework

Nice To Haves

  • At least five years of experience as an elementary or secondary principal (in addition to or concurrent with eight years certificated experience)
  • Knowledge of the California Education Code, District Board Rules, policies, procedures, goals, objectives, organizational structures, functions, and negotiated contracts related to the District’s instructional programs
  • Knowledge of special education laws, policies, and practices, including compliance requirements and service delivery models
  • Experience in expanded learning, K–12 student services, or large-scale out-of-school time program leadership
  • Experience overseeing compliance with federal, state, and district regulations (e.g., safety, Title IX, nondiscrimination, UCP)
  • Experience managing emergency preparedness, crisis response, and school/program safety systems
  • Ability to collaborate and provide support to regions, schools, and community-based organizations to improve out-of-school programs
  • Ability to coordinate the development and improvement of District programs, including program design, continuous quality improvement, evaluation strategies, and accountability for the diverse student population
  • Knowledge of effective administrative and managerial practices and ability the to implement them
  • Appropriate interpersonal style and methods to guide individuals toward task accomplishment
  • Leadership skills in facilitating group process, including consensus building and conflict resolution
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative direction and supervision for Expanded Learning Program departments
  • Directs day-to-day program operations, including incident response, emergency preparedness, facilities issues, and operational escalations
  • Serves as the point-of-contact for urgent and high-impact matters affecting programs
  • Administers and monitors implementation of policies related to safety, Title IX, nondiscrimination, Uniform Complaint Procedures, and crisis response
  • Ensures compliance with District policies, grant requirements, Federal Program Monitoring, and other regulatory mandates
  • Coordinates with various District offices on investigations and corrective actions
  • Analyzes student attendance, staff attendance, incident reporting, emergency drill completion, stakeholder surveys, and other performance metrics; uses data to assess compliance, effectiveness, and program quality; develops corrective action plans and next steps based on findings
  • Conducts site observations to collect programmatic data; evaluates or recommends enrichment programs, curricula, or recreational research-based activities; monitors the fidelity of implementation and supports continuous quality improvement (CQI)
  • Develops, reviews, and approves program budgets, budget justification plans, professional development plans, and expenditures; monitors spending for compliance with funding requirements; supports fiscal forecasting and accountability measures
  • Oversees a system-wide on-boarding process for new staff; coordinates and facilitates meetings, training, and professional development
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel
  • Collaborates with District departments on Expanded Learning Program matters
  • Performs other duties as assigned
