About The Position

The Director, Entrepreneurial Initiatives and Community Relations directs and develops entrepreneurial initiatives at Houston City College (HCC) by fostering partnerships with community organizations, leading various programs, and cultivating a culture of innovation and creativity to promote and expand entrepreneurship in Houston. HCC is one of the country’s largest single-accredited, open-admission, community colleges, comprising 14 Centers of Excellence and numerous satellite centers. It serves diverse communities in the Greater Houston area by preparing individuals for an international and technological society, offering associate degrees, certificates, workforce training, and lifelong learning opportunities. This role is central to HCC's operations, working within a dynamic team that provides students with cutting-edge academic and career tools while also supporting its employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Human Services, Psychology, Communication, Business or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 5 years’ experience in Entrepreneurship, Small Business, Community Development, Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs, or similar field
  • Valid Texas Driver License
  • MS Office Programs
  • Information Management Systems
  • Budget Management

Responsibilities

  • Direct, plan and coordinate entrepreneurial program(s) for the local community and build the Center for Entrepreneurship.
  • Host entrepreneurial and innovative events on campus and in collaboration with strategic partners.
  • Promote entrepreneurial activities at HCC.
  • Collaborate with College personnel and Administrative Officers to gather entrepreneurial success stories to promote HCC.
  • Work collaboratively with and in alignment with all Centers of Excellence, cluster deans and workforce deans.
  • Collaborate with appropriate District Communications Office staff (HCC-TV, HCC Web, Print and eMedia, and Community Development) to develop consistent and compelling messaging using all HCC and commercial mediums available.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic community partners, and liaisons with Entrepreneurial Office.
  • Serve as liaison with local chambers and districts to build relationships, and promotes HCC programs, offerings, and activities.
  • Monitor, research and track legislation which impacts entrepreneurial initiatives and small businesses.
  • Raise funds for entrepreneurial programs.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
