About The Position

Responsible for owning data strategy end to end: setting the strategy, building relationships with business stakeholders across the bank, selecting and managing the tools and vendors that support it, and personally implementing the resulting solutions. This role owns the bank's data maturity roadmap, governance, architecture, quality, and AI-readiness. This is not a strategy-only or advisory position as the same person who sets direction will be implementing the solutions.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of data governance and lineage practices sufficient to support regulatory/examiner review (GLBA, PCI DSS, BSA/AML).
  • Familiarity with a data management maturity framework (DCAM, DAMA-DMBOK, or equivalent).
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to run discovery interviews across departments and translate findings into a roadmap business leaders will fund.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Finance, or equivalent work expierence.
  • 10 years in data strategy, data architecture, or data engineering, ideally in banking, fintech, or another regulated financial services environment.
  • Track record of both authoring a data strategy/roadmap and personally implementing it, comfortable being both the strategist setting direction and the engineer writing the code.
  • Demonstrated experience leading data strategy conversations with business stakeholders (not just IT) and translating those conversations into a funded, sequenced roadmap.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data warehouse and integration tooling (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, Synapse).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in payments or merchant services data (e.g. payment processor integrations, merchant reporting) preferred.
  • Salesforce data model / integration experience preferred.
  • Prior experience building or scoring a formal data maturity assessment for a financial institution.

Responsibilities

  • Sets and owns the bank's overall data strategy, run the initial maturity assessment, and keep it current as the bank's data footprint grows.
  • Builds working relationships with stakeholders across the bank, running discovery, aligning priorities, and translating business needs into the data roadmap.
  • Builds data governance, stewardship, and lineage practices that hold up to examiner review (GLBA, PCI DSS, BSA/AML, PII handling).
  • Evaluates and selects the platforms, tools, and outside vendors needed to execute the strategy, and own those vendor relationships (contracts, delivery, performance) going forward.
  • Implements the solutions the strategy calls for, from platform build-out to integrations to reporting.
  • Drives toward a single source of truth for core entities (customer, account, product) across the bank.
  • Moves the bank from manual, spreadsheet-driven reporting toward governed self-service dashboards.
  • Ensures the underlying data foundation can support advanced analytics and AI use cases, not just BI.
  • Exercises awareness with regard to possible suspicious activity, money laundering or fraudulent behavior and reports any such incidents to the BSA department. Performs all job functions in compliance with all company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations as applicable to the position, including, but not limited to BSA/AML, OFAC and GLBA/privacy rules.
