About The Position

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups, with over 60 years of experience providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and globally. The company is the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology. Candu Energy Inc. is seeking an Engineering Director for its Port Elgin office. This full-time regular position is crucial for establishing an office near the key client, Bruce Power. The Director will be responsible for delivering internal engineering work and will report directly to the VP of Engineering Services. This is a permanent placement at the Port Elgin office.

Requirements

  • University degree in an applicable field of engineering or science.
  • At least 15 years of applicable engineering experience, including experience prior to engineering management roles.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents in a relevant field of engineering, or eligible to obtain such registration within 6 months of hiring.
  • Sound knowledge of multiple engineering fields and of nuclear technologies.
  • Demonstrated skills in managing engineering scopes of work on complex technical projects.
  • Leadership and project management skills for a highly technical group.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills in the development of team members and support staff.
  • Strong communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent client focus and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen – the ability to think, plan and negotiate strategically with a strong commercial orientation and good understanding of financial measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the utilization of the engineering personnel assigned to him/her.
  • Responsible for the technical integration with Bruce Power and Candu Energy Inc head office.
  • Responsible for site technical point of contact with Bruce Power.
  • Ensure qualified and appropriate staff are working on the project and are assigned work within their experience and skills.
  • Provide guidance, technical insights, supervision and feedback to the Engineering Managers that are part of his/her team.
  • Oversight of technical deliverables budget, schedule and quality.
  • Ensure that the final deliverables meet customer requirements specified in the contract and overall alignment with nuclear codes and standards.
  • Review and approve or delegate the approval of key technical documentation under his supervision.
  • Identifying and proposing improvements in the functioning of the organization – both proactively and in response to changes in the business environment.
  • Liaise with external clients at the behest of the Project Engineering Directors regarding the technical matters.
