About The Position

The Director, Employee Benefits, is responsible for directing established organization benefit programs such as life insurance, health and accident insurance, property and casualty insurance, retirement programs, savings plans, and maintaining such records as are necessary for benefit implementation. Develops and recommends new and improved policies and plans related to employee benefits. This position will report directly to the Chief People Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • 7-10 years related experience
  • Solid understanding and experience working with self-funded programs, required.
  • Strong understanding of property and casualty insurance coverage.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with human resource information systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 of those years working at an insurance broker, highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage, plan, and direct implementation and administration of employee benefits such as self-funded health insurance, disability insurance, life insurance, workers' compensation, employee assistance, retirement, and other plans.
  • Prepare and communicate information to employees and former employees about benefit programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures.
  • Analyze and evaluate services, coverage, and options available through insurance and investment companies to determine programs that best meet the organization's needs.
  • Direct the contract and plan design with benefit providers, vendors, auditors, and consultants for services, premiums, and plan administration.
  • Manage all aspects of the employee benefit Open Enrollment process.
  • Recommend benefit plan changes to management.
  • Advise employees of changes in benefit programs.
  • Prepare and submit government-mandated reports.
  • Audit benefit plans for compliance with government regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of and analyze US government regulations, benefit program trends, and prevailing practices among similar organizations.
  • Analyze benefits experience for cost-control and risk-assessment factors as related to self-funded benefit programs.
  • Manage experience for cost-control and risk-assessment factors as related to property and casualty insurance.
  • Develop, recommend, and audit budget allocations for employee benefits.
  • Manage leaves of absence requests.
  • Serve as primary liaison to benefit and insurance brokers.
