About The Position

Bevi is seeking a Director of Embedded Engineering to lead the electrical and firmware engineering team responsible for the electronics and firmware in its connected beverage machines. The role owns the embedded platform across the existing fleet and next-generation products, spanning multi-board electrical design, single-board computer and system-on-module platforms, microcontroller firmware, and the interfaces that connect them. This is a technical and people leadership position that sets embedded architecture and engineering standards while building and managing a team of electrical and firmware engineers. Reporting to the VP of Engineering and serving on the engineering leadership team, the Director partners closely with Mechanical, Software, Systems, Quality, Manufacturing, contract manufacturers, design partners, and suppliers. The position leads embedded execution from concept and prototype through verification, regulatory certification, production release, and ongoing field support. It also establishes engineering processes, production readiness, and testing and automation capabilities as Bevi's product portfolio grows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; a master's degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of embedded hardware and firmware experience.
  • 5+ years leading and growing teams that include both electrical and firmware engineers.
  • Track record of taking connected electromechanical products from prototype through production and sustaining them in the field at scale.
  • Experience taking electronics into high-volume production with overseas contract manufacturers, including DFM/DFT, NPI transfer, PCBA yield and quality issues, and on-site CM support.
  • Strong technical depth in board-level electrical design, including mixed-signal, power, motor and actuator drive, and sensor interfacing.
  • Strong technical depth in embedded C/C++ on ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers, including bare-metal and RTOS-based systems.
  • Experience with embedded Linux or Android (AOSP) platforms on SBC- or SoM-based designs.
  • Hands-on familiarity with UART, I2C, SPI, USB, CAN, Ethernet, and wireless protocols such as WiFi, LTE, and BLE.
  • Experience taking products through regulatory certification, including UL, FCC, CE/UKCA, and EMC, and supporting international market entry.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to participate effectively in engineering design reviews and clearly explain risks and tradeoffs to executives.
  • Ability to work in the office 3+ days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in food and beverage equipment, appliances, or other regulated consumer hardware.
  • Experience working in rapidly growing or scaling companies.

Responsibilities

  • Own embedded system architecture across Bevi products, including multi-board electrical design, SBC and SoM platforms, microcontroller firmware, and system interfaces.
  • Set the embedded technical roadmap, including platform consolidation, next-generation compute and control boards, and reuse across product lines.
  • Make technical tradeoffs involving reliability, cost, component availability, and development speed; contribute clear recommendations to the engineering leadership team.
  • Review schematics, layouts, and firmware architecture, and help investigate field failures as needed.
  • Lead electrical and firmware execution on new product programs from concept and prototype through board bring-up, design verification, regulatory certification, and production release.
  • Own embedded systems in the field, including firmware releases, fleet diagnostics, remote management, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
  • Manage component lifecycle, second sourcing, and design changes to protect supply continuity and product margins.
  • Partner with Quality and Manufacturing on test strategy, end-of-line testing, and test fixtures to support scalable production and verification.
  • Manage, hire, coach, and develop Electrical Engineers and Firmware Engineers; build a team that can scale with the product roadmap.
  • Establish clear ownership, documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Partner with Mechanical, Software, and Systems Engineering to define requirements and maintain design integrity through production.
  • Manage external design partners, contract manufacturers, and component suppliers; own design for manufacturability, NPI handoff, and production support, including test coverage, yield, and corrective actions.
  • Represent embedded engineering in program, design, and risk reviews so embedded constraints inform decisions early.
  • Own embedded regulatory and compliance readiness, including UL, FCC, CE/UKCA, and EMC, in partnership with Compliance and Quality.
  • Establish standards for schematic and layout reviews, firmware code reviews, version control, release management, and documentation.
  • Develop hardware-in-the-loop testing, unit-test frameworks, build automation, and firmware CI/CD.
  • Promote responsible use of AI to accelerate embedded design, code generation, testing, and debugging.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, with 95% of premiums paid by the employer.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Flexible PTO, 12 company holidays, and additional paid sick leave.
  • Fully paid parental leave for birth and non-birth parents.
  • Employer-paid disability and life insurance.
  • Wellness and fitness reimbursements.
  • Monthly stipends for cell phone use and commuting costs.
  • Onsite snacks, weekly catered lunch, and unlimited Bevi beverages.
  • Happy hours, team-building events, bagel breakfasts, and Values awards.
  • Equity in the form of stock options for all employees.
  • Flexible spending accounts as part of the Total Rewards plan.
