About The Position

Spartech LLC, a leading manufacturing organization in the Custom Sheet & Roll Stock and Packaging markets, is seeking a Corporate Director of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS). This role is responsible for directing EHS affairs for the corporation, focusing on continuous improvement of EHS programs, enhancing workplace safety and health, minimizing environmental risk, and cultivating a culture of EHS excellence across the organization. The position reports directly to the CEO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial hygiene, safety sciences, or equivalent.
  • Minimum ten years experience and/or training in environmental, health and safety in a production environment, preferably in a business similar to Spartech’s.
  • Minimum two years supervisory and project leadership experience.
  • Expert regulatory knowledge in EHS areas and management systems.
  • Ability to effectively apply knowledge to appropriate, workable solutions congruent with regulations and standards, and Company objectives.
  • Ability to positively influence others, manage direct reports, and effectively direct the health and safety program for continuous improvements in safety performance.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial/business reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business or local community.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • Professional registration or certification in an EHS discipline is preferable (CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Corporate EHS and Worker’s Compensation activities to assist Spartech divisions and facilities in implementing and maintaining effective EHS management systems.
  • Direct the Spartech EHS Management System at Spartech facilities worldwide.
  • Develop applicable EHS initiatives and programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Spartech standards.
  • Provide guidance and communication to senior management and plant leadership regarding EHS and Worker's Compensation status and initiatives.
  • Manage the EHS budget.
  • Analyze EHS program activities to determine applicability, successes, necessary improvements, and compliance.
  • Prepare EHS reports and presentations for senior management on environmental program status and impact.
  • Prepare various governmental reports and ensure accuracy of information.
  • Establish and maintain a Company health and safety management system aligned with established values and priorities.
  • Establish annual EHS targets and goals for the organization with input from corporate executives and business unit VPs.
  • Establish and administer a corporate EHS recognition and incentive program to promote safety excellence.
  • Develop metrics to report EHS performance to key stakeholders regularly.
  • Maintain external communication programs for positive relations with public officials, community news media, and customers.
  • Exercise leadership, coordination, and communication with regional EHS staff, operating divisions, and H&S coordinators to implement Company policies, procedures, and the overall safety management program.
  • Provide consultation to all organizational levels for identifying improvement areas, maintaining compliance, and establishing target objectives for continuous improvement.
  • Audit the organization’s health and safety management systems for compliance and improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate audit results for implementation of corrective actions and perform routine follow-up.
  • Coordinate and communicate with executive staff and business unit leadership to maintain focus and visibility of the Company’s EHS program.
  • Promote employee involvement at all levels of the organization.
