About The Position

This position will report to the VP, Research & Editorial and transform our editorial systems that are the foundation to all of NBC Sports and Olympics content across all platforms serving critical stakeholders including on-air talent and production teams for the live coverage of events with initial primary focus on the upcoming summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Sunday Night Football, NBA, WNBA, MLB, Horse Racing, Golf, Premier League Soccer, and more. The ideal candidate for this role possesses deep experience in editorial content and systems, preferably both within NBC Sports and Olympics and other sporting enterprises to help drive a big picture viewpoint on what is necessary and what is possible. The ideal candidate also has significant experience working with both studio and remote on-air talent and production and other business leaders and can think through execution of this at their level seamlessly. This candidate additionally should possess a strong understanding of the types of analytics elite athletes and coaches use to assess their own performance. In short, this person is fluent in blending the science of information with the art of deployment. This is a senior level role that is capable of working independently for long stretches with little supervision required and is able to collaborate and drive results.

Requirements

• Minimum 8+ years working experience in a premier sports environment, including in editorial/research and information systems capacities
• Experience working in a matrixed environment, with the ability to build strong relationships, collaborate across multiple stakeholders, and navigate differing priorities
• Demonstrated success leading complex initiatives, change efforts, or business-critical projects
• Significant experience working under tight deadlines in a content creation environment with simultaneous premiums on both accuracy and expediency

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• Demonstrated ability to blend raw data with narrative and editorial analysis and implement across teams
• Extensive experience working in a media, sports, news or editorial environment in particular with on air talent and production leadership
• Significant experience working with all stages of the editorial data life cycle – from acquisition to input to organization and structuring within dynamic databases, with flexible and various reporting needs, both ‘living’ and ‘static’, including expertise in troubleshooting and streamlining outputs and driving tangible insights.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving, and team-oriented environment, with a strong focus on innovation and continuous improvement
• Detail-oriented while maintaining the ability to see the bigger picture and understand how systems and processes connect across the broader organization
• Must be flexible and able to work different schedules/hours including weekend

Responsibilities

• Work with Editorial Team Leadership to transform the way information is captured, input, and output for the LA28 Games and other priority events, enabling key stakeholders to access the latest information in real-time and at any moment, not wait for reports to be carefully laid out and published and thus become instantly dated in today’s environment.
• Drive editorial research efforts to plug in to the new systems and troubleshoot and pivot on the fly.
• Train and be readily available to troubleshoot and evolve in real-time with editorial researchers at every step of this process.
• Partner constructively with stakeholders in other departments and outside vendors along with Editorial leadership to take the underlying editorial information foundations and fuel innovation in other content areas.
• Lead workshops and demonstrations and training with key stakeholders including talent and production leadership within NBC Sports.
