About The Position

The Director of Disability Support Services (DSS) provides strategic leadership to advance an academic accessible campus environment. This role leads institutional efforts to ensure access through innovative accommodations, universal design, and collaborative partnerships across the university. The Director is responsible for ensuring the provision of academic accommodations and related support for registered students in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as Amended (ADAAA). The Director oversees all DSS operations, including service delivery, staff leadership, and resource management, while serving as a key advisor on accessibility, compliance, and student success initiatives. This position requires strong strategic thinking and planning skills to develop and implement initiatives that enhance accessibility, promote student engagement, and aligns DSS goals with the University’s and Division of Student Affairs missions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Rehabilitation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten (10) year's of related experience.
  • Knowledge of ADAAA, Section 504, and accessibility best practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of ADAAA, Section 504, and accessibility best practices.
  • Ability to evaluate documentation and determine appropriate academic and assistive technology accommodations for students.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible providing services to individuals with disabilities, including related supervisory experience.
  • Higher Education Experience.

  • Experience with Assistive and accessible technology.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures institutional compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as Amended (ADAAA).
  • Works with staff to review, evaluate, and determine student eligibility for academic accommodations.
  • Facilitates the implementation of accommodations and ensures access to academic programs and services.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Office of Disability Support Services (DSS), ensuring efficient and effective delivery of programs and services.
  • Develops, administers, and monitors multiple program budgets, operational plans, and departmental resources.
  • Oversees daily office operations, ensuring alignment with university policies and student success goals.
  • Develops and implements short- and long-term goals, assessment plans, and measurable outcomes for services, programs, and staff performance.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data on program activities and outcomes to guide continuous improvement and inform decision-making.
  • Anticipates emerging needs and trends in disability services and integrates best practices into departmental operations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises full-time professional and student staff.
  • Provides leadership development, mentoring, and performance feedback to ensure professional growth and accountability.
  • Promotes a positive, engaged, and student-oriented team culture.
  • Serves as a liaison with community partners, state and federal agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates across university divisions and academic units.
  • Develops and delivers educational programs, presentations, and faculty consultations to increase awareness.
  • Represents DSS on university and divisional committees, contributing to institutional initiatives related to student success and accessibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the Division of Student Affairs and the University.
