About The Position

The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) is seeking a Director, Digital Mobilization to join their Communications team. This role will lead NPCA’s social media, online advocacy, and podcasting efforts, driving strategic innovation to engage a nationwide community of national park advocates. As a key leader, the Director will foster a culture of excellence and develop creative digital solutions. They will supervise a team responsible for social media, video podcasting, and online advocacy, setting strategy and vision to advance campaign and brand goals. The position requires continuous assessment of external and internal factors influencing digital outreach, identifying industry trends, market pressures, political shifts, and policy outcomes, and adapting the team's strategies accordingly.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6-7 years of experience in online communications, including advocacy and policy communications, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in video production, podcast production and social media outreach.
  • Experience in productive, positive staff management, including managing dispersed teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work under time constraints, meet deadlines, organize tasks, and maintain a good rapport with staff and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce several creative solutions to a problem.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Baccalaureate degree or equivalent work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of online advocacy best practices preferred.
  • Coursework or emphasis on communication, media, political science, or environmental studies preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the vision and lead execution for a new NPCA video-based podcast that will inform and inspire park lovers.
  • Creatively integrate the podcast into ongoing and overarching digital strategies to build new audiences and advance policy objectives.
  • Lead social media engagement for NPCA’s advocacy and policy campaigns.
  • Establish creative vision and strategy to reach, empower and mobilize NPCA members and supporters through social media across all major platforms.
  • Develop strategies and lead online advocacy efforts in activating existing audiences and reaching new audiences to expand NPCA’s online reach and advocate base.
  • Drive and develop creative solutions for expanding the organization’s online community, with a focus on engaging audiences not traditionally engaged in conservation or environmental advocacy.
  • Support Deputy Vice President in ensuring that digital mobilization efforts coordinate with and complement traditional media outreach.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Media & Outreach team, as well as the broader Communications Department and other departments across the organization.
  • Ensure digital engagement activations within communications campaigns are strategically planned and executed.
  • Supervise team responsible for online advocacy via email, SMS and related toolsets, social media across mainstream platforms, and video podcast and shortform video production.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Participate in administrative staff meetings, organization-wide meetings, staff committee meetings, training programs, and attend other meetings and seminars as designated by the supervisor.
  • Assist in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals.
