About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Director, Digital Health Operations to serve as an integral strategic and operational partner to the Chief Digital and Innovation Officer (CDIO). This role is responsible for driving the development and execution of strategic priorities across the Enterprise, translating organizational strategy into coordinated initiatives, operational plans, and measurable outcomes. The Director will act as a central point of coordination across departmental clinical, operational, research, and technology teams, facilitating alignment, collaboration, and effective execution of enterprise digital health priorities. This role provides strategic analysis, operational oversight, and leadership coordination to ensure initiatives progress efficiently, barriers are addressed, and departmental activities remain aligned with institutional goals. Additionally, the role supports executive operations, governance coordination, and strategic planning efforts for the Office of Digital Health Innovation, ensuring leadership priorities are effectively implemented and organizational performance is monitored through data-driven insights and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with an emphasis in health care administration required
  • 7 years of senior level experience as a health care consultant, hospital/medical center planner required; Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Ability to think systematically and collaboratively, partnering with others to creatively solve problems required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail required.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills required.
  • Ability to understand and navigate complex challenges and competing priorities on deadline and within budget required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a strategic advisor and operational partner to the Chief Digital and Innovation Officer, supporting the development and execution of the Office of Digital Health Innovation’s strategic priorities.
  • Partners with URMC senior and executive leadership to translate strategic goals into actionable initiatives, ensuring alignment between departmental priorities and broader institutional objectives.
  • Provides strategic analysis, insights, and recommendations to inform leadership decision-making.
  • Synthesizes complex information and prepares executive briefings, presentations, and materials for leadership discussions and institutional planning.
  • Works closely with the Chief Digital and Innovation Officer and departmental senior leadership to coordinate strategic initiatives, identify emerging opportunities and risks, and ensure initiatives remain aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Leads the coordination and execution of the annual strategic planning process, including prioritization, resource alignment, and integration with enterprise planning efforts.
  • Advises functional leaders on operational challenges, process improvements, and opportunities to strengthen collaboration and alignment across the Office of Digital Health Innovation, and partners with stakeholders to translate recommendations into coordinated action plans and track progress against defined goals.
  • Serves as a senior strategic advisor to the CDIO and executive leadership, providing guidance on organizational priorities, emerging opportunities, and complex operational and strategic challenges.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for administrative and project management staff within the Office of Digital Health Innovation, establishing priorities, supporting workflow coordination, and fostering a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
  • Participates in and leads recruitment, onboarding and training within and across the Office of Digital Health Innovation.
  • Provides ongoing supervision, addresses personnel issues and actions, conducts performance reviews, and engages in performance management and professional development activities for administrative and project management staff.
  • Engages and leads career development conversations and planning efforts.
  • In partnership with the Chief Digital and Innovation Officer, departmental Senior Directors, and budget personnel, supports the development and management of the Office of Digital Health Innovation annual budget and financial planning processes.
  • Maintains awareness of financial performance, resource utilization, and operational needs to support informed decision-making and responsible stewardship of departmental resources.
  • Assists departmental leadership in evaluating operational processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, resource allocation, and internal workflows.
  • Supports and leads special operational projects that enhance the effectiveness and impact of the Office of Digital Health Innovation.
  • Leads the coordination of high-priority digital health initiatives that span multiple departments and operational areas across the health system.
  • Ensures initiatives are aligned with organizational strategy and progress according to defined timelines, milestones, and performance goals.
  • Works collaboratively with clinical leaders, operational teams, technology partners, and project management resources to facilitate coordination and remove barriers to successful implementation.
  • Monitors initiative progress and outcomes, providing regular updates, insights, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Leads, supports the development of, and implements scalable processes, operational frameworks, workflows, and governance structures that enable consistent execution and support successful, repeatable processes across digital transformation initiatives.
  • Ensures these developments facilitate the clarification of roles, responsibilities, and priorities, enabling coordinated and effective execution of digital transformation efforts.
  • Serves as a liaison between Office of Digital Health Innovation leadership and internal stakeholders to support effective communication, coordination, and alignment across teams.
  • Facilitates the coordination of leadership meetings, strategic discussions, and follow-up activities to ensure priorities and action items are clearly communicated and executed.
  • Assists in developing and distributing communications related to departmental initiatives, updates, and strategic priorities.
  • Researches and responds to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders on behalf of leadership.
  • Drafts, edits, and coordinates communications, presentations, and correspondence related to Office of Digital Health Innovation initiatives and activities.
  • Supports governance and strategic planning processes for the Office of Digital Health Innovation, ensuring alignment with broader institutional planning efforts by creating workflows, templates, and intake mechanisms; defining roles, responsibilities, and decision pathways; and enabling consistent prioritization, coordination, and execution of digital transformation initiatives across the organization.
  • Defines and operationalizes key performance indicators (KPIs), success metrics, and reporting frameworks to evaluate the impact of digital health initiatives and inform executive decision-making.
  • Tracks the progress of strategic initiatives and departmental priorities, developing reporting mechanisms and performance metrics to support leadership oversight.
  • Assists in preparing materials for governance bodies, leadership committees, and institutional stakeholders.
  • Identifies trends, risks, and opportunities related to departmental initiatives and provides recommendations to leadership to support continuous improvement and organizational alignment.
