About The Position

The Director, Digital and Social Media leads NACo’s digital presence, strategy and growth across web, email, social, and emerging platforms to drive engagement, visibility, and member connection. This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution, overseeing digital performance, content strategy, and user experience while ensuring cohesive, mission-driven storytelling across all digital touchpoints. The Director is both a strategist and practitioner—setting KPIs, leveraging analytics, guiding creative storytelling, and continuously improving NACo’s digital ecosystem. This supervisory role leads a high-performing team and fosters a culture of curiosity, innovation, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in digital communications, marketing, or social media strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital campaign development and optimization.
  • Proficiency with CMS platforms, HTML/CSS, email marketing tools, marketing automation and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Sprout, Hubspot, Meta Business Suite, etc.).
  • Experience managing paid social, SEO, SEM, and digital ad campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of UX/UI, accessibility standards, and audience segmentation.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and digital storytelling skills.
  • Ability to lead projects while being hands-on with web and email execution.
  • Experience managing staff and cross-departmental collaboration.

  • Familiarity with government, association, or public sector communications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and execution of NACo’s digital ecosystem, including NACo.org, email, social media, multimedia, and third-party platforms to strengthen engagement and reach.
  • Develop data-informed digital and marketing strategies that grow audiences, expand reach, and optimize content performance across channels.
  • Monitor, analyze, and optimize website, email, social, and campaign performance using key metrics such as engagement, conversion, and ROI.
  • Identify and implement emerging tools, automation, and best practices to improve efficiency, accessibility, and user experience.
  • Oversee digital content strategy aligned with NACo’s advocacy, membership, events, and thought leadership priorities.
  • Translate long-form content into high-performing, channel-specific digital assets, including social posts, videos, and email campaigns.
  • Plan and execute integrated digital marketing campaigns using paid and organic strategies, managing budgets, targeting, and segmentation.
  • Enhance conference and event engagement through digital promotion, registration support, and content delivery.
  • Ensure NACo.org content is relevant, user-centered, accessible, and aligned with organizational goals and brand standards.
  • Oversee SEO, site navigation, UX improvements, and content governance, including consolidating or retiring outdated materials.
  • Optimize email strategy, including design, segmentation, testing, and analytics to improve engagement and conversions.
  • Lead NACo’s social media strategy across LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
  • Partner with creative teams to produce visually compelling, story-driven digital content that resonates with key audiences.
  • Identify opportunities to expand NACo’s digital footprint through new platforms, partnerships, and innovative storytelling approaches.
  • Supervise and develop digital staff, consultants, and agencies while promoting a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Work closely with creative, policy, membership, IT, and communications teams to ensure alignment across programs and initiatives.
  • Provide digital leadership and support for major reports, publications, advocacy efforts, and organizational priorities.
