About The Position

At Miovision, we are on a mission to cities that simply flow safely and efficiently. In order to keep the world’s traffic flowing, our internal systems need to be just as seamless. We are looking for a Director, Developer Operations and Experience to act as our primary architect of internal flow. The Developer Experience (DevExp) organization is a core part of Miovision’s Transformation, Delivery & Technology (TDT) department, responsible for building and operating Miovision’s Internal Developer Platform and Agentic SDLC. This platform enables engineers, solution engineers, QA, and other technical and semi-technical users to build, test, deploy, operate, and evolve software quickly, safely, and with confidence. As the Director, Developer Operations and Experience, you will lead a small team of DevOps Engineers and stay close to their day-to-day work, while also steering the evolution from a traditional DevOps function into a modern Developer Experience and Platform Engineering organization. This role owns the strategy, architecture, and execution of the internal developer platform, CI/CD, cloud foundations, observability, and developer tooling, while also pioneering how AI and agent-first pipelines are embedded into the software development lifecycle. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will build and lead a team, coach deeply, and regularly roll up your sleeves alongside engineers. At Miovision, everyone is a builder, and this role exists to ensure that building is fast, intuitive, secure, and increasingly AI-native while maintaining deep accountability for reliability, security, and production operations. Please note: We love collaborating in person. This is a hybrid opportunity with about one day a week spent at our Kitchener HQ. If you’re outside the local commuting area but think you're a perfect match, we still want to hear from you, however priority will be given to those who can meet this on-site requirement.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Developer Operations, Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, or related domains.
  • Prior experience as a people leader, leading DevOps and/or Developer Experience teams.
  • Strong background in cloud platforms (AWS) and cloud-native architecture.
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Hands-on experience with container platforms (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Experience scaling DevOps/Platform Engineering across multi-team, multi-product environments.
  • Experience operating mission-critical production systems.
  • Strong systems thinking and architectural judgment.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders across multiple business units.
  • AWS (compute, networking, storage, identity)
  • Kubernetes, Docker
  • Terraform
  • GitLab, ArgoCD
  • Observability stacks (Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Grafana)
  • Software development in one or more of Java, Python, Node

  • Standardize incident response and operational maturity.
  • Ensure secure, compliant, and auditable production operations.
  • Own production system health and availability with Engineering/Architecture.
  • Establish a service maturity model (reliability, security, observability, CI/CD, AI-readiness).
  • Enforce secure coding standards and Quality Gates across all repositories.
  • Evolve DevOps to a modern, platform-engineered, AI-enabled Developer Experience organization, while maintaining reliability and security accountability.
  • Shift focus to enabling all contributors (including QA, solution engineering) as builders.
  • Introduce platform-as-product operating models with roadmaps, feedback, and metrics.
  • Radically reduce developer/contributor onboarding time.
  • Improve wayfinding via standards, templates, and conventions.
  • Standardize repository structure and build/deploy patterns for AI workflows, security, and predictability.
  • Drive AI adoption across engineering roles.
  • Design AI-driven capabilities: automated code review, test generation, incident analysis, anomaly detection, and remediation.
  • Translate emerging agentic tooling into internal capabilities.
  • Ensure AI and agent-driven workflows operate within secure, monitored, and policy-bound environments.
  • Embed guardrails to protect proprietary code, customer data, and infrastructure secrets.
  • Own CI/CD platforms, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code standards.
  • Define and enforce reliability and quality while enforcing container hardening, image provenance validation, and runtime protections.
  • Standardize on-call models, incident response, escalation, and post-incident learning.
  • Automate runbooks and operational workflows.
  • Partner on AWS usage, cloud patterns, cost efficiency, and observability standards.
  • Own platform reliability, performance, cost governance, and operability templates.
