About The Position

The (USA) Director, Data Science leads the development and deployment of advanced analytical models and data strategies to drive business value. This role requires expertise in machine learning, data management, and coding to design scalable solutions aligned with organizational objectives. The director oversees data quality, model validation, and cross-functional collaboration to translate complex data into actionable insights. By guiding teams and fostering innovation, this position ensures the effective application of data science to support strategic decision-making and operational excellence within the company. The TAXI team leads Walmart’s Tax Transformation and Modernization initiative and supports Walmart Claims, leveraging advanced data science and engineering. The team builds scalable platforms to improve tax determination, exemptions, analytics, and governance while enabling accurate and efficient tax operations enterprise-wide. For Claims, the team applies data science, machine learning, and advanced analytics to identify patterns, automate processes, improve decision-making, and drive operational efficiency. Working closely with cross-functional partners, TAXI delivers reliable, sustainable solutions aligned with Walmart’s business and technology goals.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in data science, machine learning algorithms, and feature engineering to develop scalable analytical solutions.
• Proficiency in Python programming and automation to streamline data processes and model deployment.
• Strong knowledge of data strategy, management, and quality standards to ensure reliable and actionable insights.
• Ability to translate complex business requirements into effective data-driven strategies aligned with organizational goals.
• Expertise in analytical modeling, model validation, and continuous improvement of predictive models.
• Proven leadership skills to mentor teams, drive innovation, and foster collaboration across functions.
• Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 6 years' experience in an analytics related field.
• Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.
• 8 years' experience in an analytics or related field
