About The Position

As the Director of Data Science for the Walmart Data Ventures Tech team, you will lead the development and deployment of production-grade, end-to-end supplier-facing AI systems. You will spearhead high-impact initiatives across generative AI, agentic intelligence, and machine learning to power our advanced insights platform. This critical leadership role combines technical excellence, strategic AI-first product vision, and people management. You will guide a world-class team to build scalable AI solutions that directly optimize operations, unlock new business models, and redefine the retail ecosystem for the world's largest retailer and its global network of suppliers. Walmart Data Ventures powers the data and AI platform supporting the world’s largest retailer’s suppliers. The Walmart Scintilla team transforms extensive data into actionable insights, recommendations, and innovations that enhance customer, merchant, and supplier outcomes. This team leads advancements in generative AI, agentic intelligence, machine learning, measurement, and causal inference to redefine retail experiences, optimize operations, and develop new business models. Requirements

  • Extensive experience pioneering enterprise AI strategies and mentoring high-performing data science teams.
  • A proven track record deploying production-grade, end-to-end AI systems with a meticulous attention to detail regarding scalability and accuracy.
  • Exceptional ability to heavily influence the product roadmap in a data-driven way, translating complex insights into clear business strategies.
  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 6 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • 8 years' experience in an analytics or related field

  • Familiarity with the retail business ecosystem is a strong plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle, from research to production deployment, of sophisticated AI systems supporting different Scintilla product lines.
  • Scale advanced capabilities in generative AI, agentic intelligence, B2B recommendation platforms, measurement and causal inference to solve complex enterprise retail challenges.
  • Champion a high-performing culture, managing and mentoring a talented team of data scientists, machine learning engineers and software engineers.
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, UX and business leaders to align the AI roadmap with overarching Scintilla strategies and supplier needs.
