SUMMARY The Director of Data & Portfolio Management is a key member of the IT leadership team responsible for unifying data across the enterprise and bringing program and project management discipline to the IT organization. This role leads data unification initiatives spanning commercial, marketing, and manufacturing functions, and owns the support and project portfolio for core enterprise systems including ERP, HRIS, contract management, and expense management. Beyond program leadership, this individual serves a key roll in the IT Leadership Team, driving agenda-setting, operational cadence, and accountability across the function. The Director leverages AI-enabled tools to create real-time visibility into IT work, acts as the organization's SME for program and operational best practices, and holds both business and IT stakeholders accountable to strong data governance standards.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive IT experience, including significant program and project management leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience leading ERP implementations, upgrades, or ongoing ERP operations.
  • Experience serving in a chief-of-staff or similar capacity supporting a leadership team, including agenda management and operational cadence.
  • Proven track record establishing and running IT disciplines for support and program/project delivery from the ground up.
  • Experience leading data unification, data governance, or master data management initiatives across multiple business functions.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI tools to improve program visibility, reporting, or operational efficiency.
  • Experience in biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or similarly regulated industries.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP, PgMP, or equivalent program/project management certification.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools (e.g., master data management platforms, data catalogs).
  • Exposure to GxP, SOX, or similar compliance frameworks as they relate to data and systems governance.
  • Experience building or scaling a small Program/Project Management Office (PMO) function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise data unification programs spanning commercial, marketing, and manufacturing functions, aligning disparate data sources into a single, trusted view.
  • Define and enforce data governance standards, including ownership, quality, stewardship, and lifecycle management of key enterprise data domains.
  • Hold both business and IT stakeholders accountable for data quality, integrity, and adherence to governance policy.
  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Quality leaders to identify data unification priorities that drive business decision-making.
  • Drive program leadership and disciplined project management practices across the IT organization, establishing consistent methodology, templates, and governance.
  • Own the intake, prioritization, and portfolio management process for IT projects, ensuring alignment with business priorities and resource capacity.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for on-time, on-budget, and on-scope delivery across the IT project portfolio.
  • Coach and mentor project leads across IT on program management best practices and standards.
  • Manage support and project work for core enterprise systems, including ERP, HRIS, contract management, and expense management solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for system roadmaps, enhancement backlogs, and vendor relationships tied to these platforms.
  • Coordinate with system owners and business stakeholders to plan upgrades, integrations, and process improvements.
  • Serve as a key contributor to the IT Leadership Team, functioning in a chief-of-staff capacity to the Head of IT.
  • Coordinate IT LT agendas, drive operational cadence, and track follow-through on commitments and action items.
  • Prepare leadership communications, business reviews, and reporting materials that reflect the health and priorities of the IT organization.
  • Utilize AI tools and platforms within program management to create real-time visibility into IT work, capacity, and status across the portfolio.
  • Identify and pilot opportunities to apply AI to streamline reporting, forecasting, and portfolio decision-making.
  • Champion adoption of AI-enabled program management practices across the IT organization.
  • Act as the IT organization's subject matter expert for operational best practices across program delivery, support, and portfolio management.
  • Establish and maintain documentation, playbooks, and standards for program and portfolio operations.
  • Continuously assess and improve IT operating processes for efficiency, transparency, and business alignment.
