About The Position

The New York Times is seeking an innovative analytics director who is passionate about data and eager for the opportunity to support the Times journalistic mission. As part of the Data and Insights Group (DIG), you will join a large community of talented data leaders who partner with Product, Engineering, Design, and PMO teams across the business. In this role, you’ll be responsible for bringing insight and visibility to the performance of our subscription funnel. You will lead the roadmap and strategic direction for Growth Conversion analytics. You will provide leadership and guidance to teams, establish key performance indicators, and leverage data-driven insights to drive results and uncover opportunity. This is a people leader role requiring a player-coach mentality. You will report to the VP, Growth Analytics.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience working with data analytics or data science teams to deliver reporting, analysis and insight or a quantitative degree
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Mode, Tableau, or Lookr

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Google BigQuery, AWS, or other big data environments
  • Comfort with version control (Github, code review)
  • Experience leading product or subscription analytics strategy
  • 5+ years of experience communicating key insights cross-functionally(written, visually and verbally)

Responsibilities

  • Define your team’s data strategy and own the creation and execution of solutions across the team
  • Manage multiple, and at times simultaneous, projects from start to finish, balancing impact, scope and speed, to get the data and insight in a timely manner.
  • Create novel insights, advocate for them, and lead them into action
  • Oversee team deliverables and represent the team’s work and impact at the executive level
  • Democratize data and insights through skillful data structuring and use of visualization tools
  • Navigate through ambiguity and organizational structures to advise stakeholders on how to best evaluate and implement initiatives from a data perspective
  • Lead, hire, onboard, and develop talent, careers, and culture of analytics within your team
  • Proactively lead data projects by fostering collaboration, building consensus and driving initiatives to successful completion
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
