Director, Customer Acquisition

ShefNew York, NY
Hybrid

About The Position

Your role at Shef will be to drive scalable growth across our chef-to-consumer marketplace through data-driven channel development and strategic experimentation. You'll own acquisition strategy and execution from Meta and Google to emerging channels like TikTok and OOH, building sustainable systems that maximize customer lifetime value while hitting aggressive CAC targets. This role demands someone who can seamlessly blend analytical rigor with creative problem-solving. You'll be responsible for scaling our digital advertising to $500K+ monthly spend, building a high-velocity performance creative engine, and building the measurement frameworks that guide strategic decisions across the growth function. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in performance marketing fundamentals but thinks beyond traditional tactics. You're equally comfortable hands on keyboard inside an ad platform, diving into complex attribution reporting, and presenting growth strategy to leadership. You've probably built custom dashboards to track cohort performance, tested unconventional acquisition channels just to see what works, and have strong opinions about creative testing methodologies. You'll be joining an energetic, scrappy team in our NYC office, working hybrid with 3 days in-office collaboration. This role reports to the Head of Marketing and is perfect for someone who wants to blend analytical rigor with creative testing to drive real business impact.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in growth, performance marketing, or retention roles—ideally in B2C subscription, marketplace, or consumer tech startups
  • Hands-on expertise managing and optimizing campaigns in Google Ads, Meta Ads, and emerging social platforms
  • Proven track record running experiments and driving measurable impact across the full customer lifecycle
  • Experience with subscription metrics (CAC, LTV, churn, cohort analysis) and consumer analytics tools
  • Strong analytical mindset and comfort with data storytelling to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience building retention programs and optimizing subscription funnels
  • Excellent project management and collaboration skills
  • Resourceful, scrappy, and excited to build and scale new systems in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Responsibilities

  • Channel Ownership & Execution: Scale Meta Ads and Google Ads as core acquisition engines, from strategy to execution. Expand our playbook across other high-leverage channels including TikTok, Direct Mail, OOH, and influencer partnerships.
  • Hands-On Campaign Management: Design and manage end-to-end growth campaigns—from audience targeting and creative testing to landing page optimization and budget pacing.
  • Creative Production & Testing: Build and manage a high-velocity performance creative engine that produces 15+ new concepts monthly. Develop systematic creative testing frameworks, optimize asset performance across formats and platforms, and establish scalable workflows for creative ideation, production, and iteration.
  • AI-First Approach: Build the new playbook for modern growth marketing. Develop AI-native systems, tools, and processes that reflect what best-in-class will look like in 2030, not 2020.
  • Big Swings: Identify, design, and execute high-impact growth bets that can deliver step-function improvements to customer acquisition efficiency and scale.
  • Attribution & Analytics: Collaborate with Marketing Analyst to drive reporting and attribution across all growth channels. Build dashboards that connect acquisition spend to subscriber cohorts, retention rates, and LTV.
  • Experimentation & Optimization: Lead constant test-and-learn cadence across messaging, offers, creative, and channels. Bring a growth mindset to every campaign, from acquisition through retention.
  • Collaboration & Alignment: Work cross-functionally with product, brand, and operations teams to align on growth priorities, share learnings, and inform strategy.
