Director, Crypto Lending
About The Position
The Business Unit Lead (Business Lead) will have primary day-to-day responsibility for managing the Crypto Lending service line, including sales and contracting, end-to-end operational delivery, P&L, and Risk, all in coordination with functional partners in areas such as engineering & product, finance, legal, operations, compliance, and risk management. Because this is a new service not yet in market, the Business Lead will also have the opportunity to shape the product and feature roadmap, the credit/collateral frameworks, and the underlying technology and operating model. The Business Lead will report to the SVP, Crypto. This role is a great fit for someone who brings deep experience in digital assets, institutional lending, or prime brokerage, an ability to integrate all of the disciplines necessary to run a successful and compliant business, and a desire to create something new in a highly regulated environment.
Requirements
- Deep Subject Matter Expertise: Strong understanding of crypto markets, digital asset lending mechanics, prime brokerage services, collateral management, and the broader Web3/digital asset financial ecosystem.
- Proven Experience: At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in financial services, with at least 5 years specifically focused on crypto financial services, institutional lending, or structured credit.
- Business Leadership: Demonstrated success overseeing a lending-related or digital asset line of business, with a track record of driving revenue and managing credit/market risk.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, bridge the gap between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized infrastructure, and collaborate heavily with engineering and product teams.
- Entrepreneurial Instincts: A builder mindset comfortable with ambiguity, navigating evolving market structures, and launching a business line from scratch.
- Regulatory Rigor: A clear commitment to operating to the letter and spirit of regulatory, compliance, and risk parameters in a rapidly evolving legislative landscape.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Finance, Economics, Computer Science) or equivalent practical experience.
Nice To Haves
- Regulated Banking Background: Experience overseeing a digital asset or complex lending business within a regulated Bank or federally chartered financial institution.
- Risk & Liquidation Expertise: Hands-on experience designing automated margin-call and liquidation engines for volatile asset classes.
- Ground-Up Builds: Experience building new crypto or financial service extensions from the "ground up."
Responsibilities
- Shape the Strategy: Refine the existing business plan and the detailed work plan for building out crypto lending capabilities (e.g., collateralized lending, yield generation, or institutional lines of credit) based on your deep experience and expertise.
- Drive the Build: Lead the "build" process from pilot to general launch stages, working closely with partners in engineering, operations, compliance, legal, and risk to establish secure custody, valuation, and liquidation infrastructure.
- Manage Day-to-Day Operations: After launch, lead and coordinate the daily operations of the crypto lending business, holding ultimate accountability for financial performance (P&L), operational excellence, and strict adherence to regulatory compliance and risk parameters.
- Lead Client Acquisition: Play a direct role in client sales, onboarding, and contracting, in conjunction with the legal and finance teams, and external institutional partners as appropriate.
- Evolve the Roadmap: Lead strategic thinking for the evolution of the crypto lending service line in terms of institutional clients, digital asset use cases, and product features, maintaining a "living" roadmap for future enhancements.
- Align with the Bank: Ensure that the crypto lending business strictly aligns with the Bank’s broader strategic goals, capital requirements, and macroeconomic risk mitigation strategies.
