About The Position

Five9 is seeking a Director of Corporate Communications to lead the strategy and execution of the company's communications across press/external market, customers, and the public. This role will define the corporate narrative, media and public relations, executive and thought-leadership communications, corporate social media, and corporate/crisis communications. The Director will personally handle external relations (media, executive voice, narrative) and manage social media and customer communications functions. The ideal candidate is a strategic communicator with strong judgment, capable of writing press statements, briefing executives, and managing crises. They will collaborate with various departments to ensure consistent and accurate messaging. Industry Analyst Relations and Investor Relations are separate functions and not part of this role's responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
  • Experience leading the communications function in B2B SaaS or enterprise technology.
  • Demonstrated breadth across external media relations, corporate social media, and crisis communications.
  • Proven experience as the corporate voice of a company (narrative, press motion, executive communications), ideally at a public or pre-IPO company.
  • Hands-on crisis and issues management experience, including incident or outage communications to customers.
  • Strong writing and editing skills across various formats (press materials, executive messaging, social content, customer-facing notices).
  • Experience building or directing a corporate social media function and managing communications professionals.
  • Comfort partnering with senior leaders, Legal, and cross-functional stakeholders in fast-moving, high-stakes situations.
  • Hands-on proficiency with modern AI tools and a clear point of view on their application to communications work.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Five9 corporate narrative, ensuring a consistent voice across all audiences (market, customers, public).
  • Set the annual communications strategy and calendar, aligning announcements and milestones with GTM and brand priorities.
  • Maintain consistent messaging across all audiences for corporate news, product news, and the company's AI story.
  • Lead media and public relations efforts, including press strategy, media relationships, announcements, press materials, and agency management.
  • Drive executive and thought-leadership communications, developing the voice, messaging, and platform for executives across earned media, speaking, and owned channels.
  • Build and protect Five9's share of voice in the CX and AI conversation, setting and measuring against coverage and reputation goals.
  • Manage inbound press and media inquiries, serving as a fast and reliable point of contact.
  • Own Five9's corporate social media presence, including strategy, voice, and calendar across owned channels.
  • Amplify corporate news and earned media through social channels to extend reach and shape reputation.
  • Conduct social listening and real-time response monitoring, identifying risks and opportunities, and managing the social aspect of issues or crises.
  • Measure social media performance against reach and reputation goals, focusing on share of voice, engagement quality, and corporate reputation outcomes.
  • Own corporate communications to customers, including company news, leadership changes, and material corporate developments.
  • Build playbooks and practices for customer-facing corporate communications as this scope formalizes.
  • Partner with Customer and Marketing organizations to differentiate corporate communications from customer marketing and lifecycle programs.
  • Own crisis and issues communications across all audiences, ensuring accurate and consistent messaging during critical events.
  • Lead outage and incident communications to customers, managing messaging and cadence in partnership with Support and Customer Success.
  • Build the crisis communications framework, including protocols, holding statements, escalation paths, and approvals.
  • Partner with Legal, Support, People, and the executive team during sensitive situations to provide calm, accuracy, and a unified voice.
  • Build and lead the communications function, starting with the existing social media team member and scaling as needed.
  • Establish operating rhythms and standards, including editorial review, message governance, and working cadences with partners.
  • Develop future communications talent through hiring, mentoring, and building a desirable team environment.
