Director, Content and Community

Cogent Security•,

About The Position

Cogent is building a world-class marketing team, and we're looking for smart, fast, exceptional people who are committed to our mission and bring a spark of creativity that sets us apart from traditional B2B marketing. As the founding content leader, you'll own how Cogent sounds: the editorial point of view, the executive and founder voice, and the research and stories we put into the world. You'll take raw material (product insight, original research, customer outcomes) and turn it into content that travels and moves pipeline. This is a builder's seat. Production runs on AI, contractors, and a small team, so you set the editorial standard, orchestrate the output, and still write the pieces that matter yourself. A separate Director of Communications owns press and analyst relations; you build the material worth covering, they land it.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years in content roles in B2B tech, with cybersecurity strongly preferred.
  • A track record of content that moved real numbers: content-sourced pipeline, organic traffic and rankings, and engagement that turned into meetings.
  • You've done it at a small company where you were the engine: shipping weekly without a big team, a big budget, or someone else's strategy to execute.
  • Excellent writing and editorial judgment. You can build a point of view and explain complex security topics simply and credibly.
  • Proven ghostwriting for executives, with a real system for capturing their voice.
  • Fluent with AI in the actual work. You can walk through a content workflow you built, where it broke, and what you changed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience packaging research: threat reports, benchmarks, original analysis that earned attention.
  • Experience running SEO through agencies or contractors, and a working point of view on AEO.
  • Production ability beyond writing: short video, explainers, visual assets, or the judgment to direct contractors who make them.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management, exposure management, or AppSec/CloudSec adjacencies.

Responsibilities

  • Own Cogent's content engine end to end: the calendar, and content series that compound over time (weekly VM insights, AI security myths, remediation playbooks) across LinkedIn-first social, blog, video, and long-form.
  • Own SEO and AEO so the work gets found by the buyers and by the models that now shape how people discover it.
  • Tie content to pipeline. Track which pieces move deals and do more of what works.
  • Write the top- and middle-of-funnel pieces that pull practitioners in and move buyers toward a decision: blog posts, ebooks, and whitepapers.
  • Own the social strategy: regular series and point-in-time posts that keep a steady drumbeat of Cogent's point of view in front of practitioners.
  • Ghostwrite for the CEO, CTO, and technical leaders with a real point of view and a consistent voice.
  • Build repeatable systems to capture raw material: leader interviews, Slack mining, call notes, research briefs.
  • Turn that raw material into thought leadership that security practitioners actually read and share.
  • Turn Cogent Research, threat findings, and product insight into original analysis that travels and generates pipeline.
  • Own the flagship research report and the programs around it, with the research team and the CTO.
  • React fast when security news breaks: ship the POV piece while the story still matters.
  • Use AI across the workflow and orchestrate contractors and tools so a small team ships like a big one, without losing accuracy or voice.
  • Build systems that make the whole engine faster, like a living archive of positioning, proof, and research the whole company can draw from.

Benefits

  • world-class GTM team where your work directly impacts the safety of some of the world's most sophisticated organizations.
